To me, I kind of liked how they did the draft ratings last year. You scouted players, looked at the measurables, had your scouts look at a limited number of players, they were "rated", and then you took a chance on a player that you thought would be good.
The first year I drafted, I had a lot of needs on both the teams I was playing with (Cards and Falcs), so I just drafted the best player available at one of the positions of need. The second year, I targeted players that I wanted, and drafted them based on their "numbers", regardless of who else was available (i.e., in the third round, I bypassed a player that was rated as a 1st-2nd rounder for a player that I'd scouted and liked, but was rated as a solid 3rd rounder) and that didn't turn out as well at all. There's a lot of chance involved with scouting and drafting, and the game reflects that.
