Was it the “Lendl Effect” that we saw in Madrid on Monday, as Andy Murray despatched Dominic Thiem in straight sets? It is tempting to say so. Murray had not won a clay-court match for almost five years, and here he was outclassing an expert on this surface – a two-time French Open finalist – in just 102 minutes.
