After Tuesday's Games

NOTE: Phoenix holds the tie breakers with Utah - Magic Number reflects a tie
Clippers and Nuggets hold tie breaker over the Suns

1 Seed (Utah) - 3 (Home Court Through Out Playoffs)
2 Seed (Clippers) - 1 (Home Court 1st and 2nd Rounds)

If Playoffs were to start today:

7/8 Game: Lakers vs Warriors
Winner gets 7 Seed, Loser plays winner of 9/10 game
9/10 Game: Grizzlies vs Spurs

1 vs 8: Jazz vs Play-in #8
2 vs 7: Suns vs Lakers/Warriors winner
3 vs 6: Clippers vs Trail Blazers
4 vs 5: Nuggets vs Mavericks

I think 1 seed magic number is 3. If we win two and Utah loses one we are 1 seed. If Utah loses both and we split with San Antonio we are 1 seed.

The Warriors are actually in 8th at the moment because of a better conference record than Memphis.

The NBA may need to look at doing a lottery for playoff teams.

The NBA may need to look at doing a lottery for playoff teams.

What does that mean? You want opponents picked by a lottery machine? That would eliminate any desire for teams to win once they had a playoff spot locked up.

I think the NBA needs to look at penalties for teams that manipulate playoff seeding and playoff berths by resting players or otherwise at the end of the season.

what? Why? Teams who got the place they want by winning games and doing what they can to get the best matchup for their success should be punished? That makes no sense to me.

In theory if every team puts their best players on the floor and plays to win all season.

One other way to prevent this is to have the top seeds pick their opponent. That encourages all teams to win out and disincentivizes losing as there is no possible way to manipulate the matchups.

Then we do everything we can to win out. Control our own destiny. What happens, happens.

It really has not been much of a problem this season. Basically just a game or two for most teams.

suns have no one to blame but themselves. No way they should have lost that golden state game, or several others earlier in the season.

yeah.

lt’s at least 80 percent now that it will be the Lakers.
Lakers have 2 very winnable games left and Portland has Denver still to play. Probably closer to 50/50 as to who between the Lakers and Blazers end up in the play in.

That being said if the Warriors can stay at that 8 spot I wouldn't be surprised if Steph goes nuclear for one game and they snag the 7 seed from the Lakers.
