On Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported the O's have amplified their efforts to deal the impending free agent and hope moving him about a month before the deadline could yield a greater return.

DBacks are 12/15 in the NL on offense. Machado (RHB) can platoon with Lamb(LHB) at 3B and be an offensive threat at SS where we are below league avg.

He would absolutely improve this club for the playoff push that would happen in the second half of this season.

Yeah I dont follow the farm super closely, but is Duplantier the guy who is racking up strike outs in Reno? Because I hear VERY good things about him and he's pretty young too right?

He would absolutely improve this club for the playoff push that would happen in the second half of this season.

No doubt Machado would help the offense... but would that still be enough to get this team into championship contention? I don't think so. I think the offense would still be an issue - I just don't have enough faith in guys like Peralta (though it's growing each day with him), Jay, Owings, Dyson, Souza, Marte, Ahmed, Murphy/Mathis... Descalso is fantastic - OFF THE BENCH, and at this moment, we really can't be certain if AJ will resemble the guy we saw in April...
Coupled with a pitching staff that is clearly leaking oil - both the rotation and the pen, and I just don't believe Machado to be worth it this year...

Per that report, however, the Orioles want pitching prospect Dustin May included in any trade package for Machado.

Rosenthal suggests that the D-backs and Indians could be the “most motivated” teams in the Machado market, and Zolecki, too, specifically lists the D-backs as a club likelier to acquire Machado than the Phillies.

Anything to put Ahmed on the bench against righties and Lamb against lefties. Especially with a slugger bat.

Now that the sluggers are coming back, you're absolutely right. For a good part of the season, his best clutch hitting is in the 7-8-9 innings.

And, as much as I appreciated what Owings has done for the team backing up six positions, he is the weakest hitter at six positions. He should not be a primary backup at any. Mediocre versatility doesn't help the team, especially in the outfield, where Jay will be the #4 OF with Pollock just back and Souza following.

I just added the Owings comments as an afterthought. 'Nothing to do with acquiring Machado.

Baltimore is leaking the Dodgers interests to drive up the price on te Diamondbacks. Idk if Hazen is willing to deal Duplantier or Widener but nobody thought he’d deal Banda either.

Ahmed is actually hitting well vs LHP this year. With Machado’s ability to play SS and 3B you could always have the favorable matchup with Lamb/Ahmed. Morosi said the Dodgers are likely out of it for Machado and will go for bullpen help.

ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick tweets that teams still aren’t offering anything close to what the Orioles are hoping to obtain for Machado. That sounds like a similar situation to the one Baltimore encountered in the offseason, when its front office sought a pair of MLB-ready rotation pieces in exchange for the final year of Machado’s contract but could not find a taker at that exorbitant price tag.

Controllable pitching has reportedly been among the Orioles’ top priorities once again, and they’re also said to be interested in landing some type of replacement for Machado in the infield. But, with Machado set to hit free agency at season’s end, extracting multiple MLB-ready assets from a rival club is a difficult, if not borderline unrealistic goal for the Orioles.

As Crasnick notes, the rental market, in general, has proven less fruitful for sellers in recent seasons, and talented as Machado may be, he’ll be a free agent at season’s end. While many fans have wishfully speculated about negotiating windows and extension scenarios that could prevent Machado from reaching the market, the reality is that he’s going to explore free agency in search of a record-setting contract this winter.

5:45pm: If the O’s are to strike an early deal involving Machado, it seems they may not be able to do so with the Phillies. Per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, via Twitter, the Philadelphia organization has “moved on from Machado for now, as [the] Orioles’ asking price is too high.” Of course, a change of heart on either side could take place at any moment, so there’s no reason to think the match is off the table at this early stage of the summer trade period.
