There goes any possibility of a dream fight between Manny & Floyd. No one is going to want to see it now. Age looks like it is finally catching up with Manny.

The fake body shot that turned to a overhand right was a thing of beauty. The first time Manny fell. The knockout speaks for itself.

You could see this coming a mile away it's why I didn't even bother to pay for the fight. Manny has been subpar his last 3 fights including the one he got robbed in. He's got too many things going on now and he took this fight because he didn't know what else to do. He looked good but there were reports leading up to the fight about him being distracted and people were worried.

He got hit with an absolute perfect counter punch and went out.

Hopefully he'll retire now and keep with the politics and stuff he's made more than enough money.

Hats off to Marquez he's been in every fight with Manny and finally broke through.

This fight was the perfect illustration of a once great fighter who can still dominate at times in a fight, but, who is much more open to taking big shots as his timing, quickness and defensive skills are eroding...right before our eyes.
The first time he was knocked down (2nd or 3rd round?) was from a shot I have never seen anyone ever land on Manny. It was very strange to see how Manny allowed Marquez to land that one and he dropped like a sack of potatoes...
The 2nd and final knockout came with literally 1 second left in the 6th round. A round that Manny pretty much dominated as he was really beating up and bloodying Marquez. He dropped Marquez in the 5th round on a beautiful straight left hand. But, again - he left himself wide open and was hit with one of the most perfectly timed and perfectly thrown counter right hands... Still, I can't say the last time - if ever - I have ever seen a fighter get knocked out cold from being hit straight in the face like that. Typically, when a fighter is knocked unconcious, it's from a punch that lands on the jaw. It's a very bad sign that Manny was knocked out cold (he was out out way before his face slammed to the canvass) from a punch that hit him straight in the face...

Manny indicated he will fight again - which is crazy. Marquez on the other hand is amazing. He's 39 years old!!! Just incredible...

If there was fair judging in boxing (yeah, right), Marquez would be 4-0 against Pacquiao.

Glad no judge could take away his victory this time.

At best it would be 2 & 2 Jon... The 3 previous fights were extremely close with just about each round up for grabs... Judging in boxing is simply not scientific, as much as we want it to be.

Take the Leonard-Hagler fight. At the time I watched it live, I was convinced Surgar Ray won that fight. However, I have rewatched it at least 10 times since and have scored it a draw, a win for Hagler and a win for Leonard on many of those 10 occasions...

We will have to disagree. Pac man is very good, but the hype allowed him to win fights he really lost.

Huh?? Aside from the incredibly tight Marquez fights, what other fights should he have lost?? He was perhaps one of the most dominate fighters in recent times!

+1

Besides, Manny was probably winning THIS fight until Marquez's massive punch.

Agreed, I thought Manny clearly won 2 and I was ok with the draw in the other although it COULD have been to Marquez.

Manny has a style of fighting that leads to him scoring very well, he throws a lot of punches, he lands a lot of punches, and he lands punches with power. That's what you're supposed to do.

marquez is the toughest guy Manny fought so if anybody was going to KO him it would have been him. He's again faster than Mayweather seems to be so yeah I hope he retires too, if they fought now he'd lose for sure.

2-3 years ago I think he would have beaten Floyd up, now he's not fast enough to hit him.

Not sure about that Russ... I actually think Margarito and Cotto are tougher/stronger that Marquez is... Marquez is just too damn smart and is arguably the best counter-pouncher in the history of the game.
In a pre-fight interview Marquez was asked what his biggest advantage is over Manny. His response: "My intelligence". And he was so right.

How do you know Floyd hasn't lost anything? The guy is just a name, not really a fighter anymore.

Yeah sorry I meant toughest matchup. For that exact reason he's so good at counter punching.

Admittedly haven't watched him recently but he seems to have retained his speed if not his power. I don't think he'd be able to just KO Manny the way marquez did but I don't think Manny would be able to hit him, he's lost speed.

But it's a fair point they're both declining.

Such a bummer that these two never met in their prime. Now, if they were to meet even next year, I think it would be a boring, sleep-inducing fight that would make both boat-loads of $$...
For years this was the dream match. Now, I really hope it doesn't happen...

It would be pointless beyond the money. Manny has lost 2 straight(admittedly one he was robbed) and Mayweather is fighting legal problems etc.

This is getting ridiculous. GF getting a blood test on Sat I'm reading SI in the waiting room and in the article on this fight they mention that Marquez is now working with Angel Hernandez aka Angel Heredia who in 2008 testified in court helping the government nail Track coach Trevor Graham for steroids.

Marquez has been on the suspected PED user list for awhile but apparently his newfound physique surprised people at the weigh in so they did a little research and were surprised to see Angel actually in his corner during the fight.

Marquez insists he's clean and his urine tests will come back clean. he even offered to do Olympic Style drug testing for his next fight.

Saw that.. but, both his and Manny's post-fight blood tests came back clean.

Yeah but the amount of dirty athletes who never fail tests is huge.

I read yesterday that when Marquez took his robe off at the weighin Manny's people just did a eye roll and immediately after the weighin they were telling Marquez' people the fight was off if Marquez didn't agree to a pre fight drug test. They eventually figured it would be a big issue with the contract so they went ahead and fought.

Their big fear was Marquez would win and then fail the post fight drug test but the loss would already taint Manny.

Seriously are there no clean athletes left in any sport? Boxing is bad enough with the lousy decisions.
