I pitched in high school and college and this is a very difficult habit to notice and break and its usually up to your teammates to notice because the other team sure as hell ain't gonna tell you.

I have been watching Mantei pitch the last few weeks and I finally TIVO'd a few of his games and watched it last night and broke down his pitches....

Years past Mantei has really only been a slider, fastball guy. You can have success with these two pitches because the grip and arm angle is almost exactly the same. ....so now Matt has added a pitch and introduced a bad habit

I didn't notice him throwing a curve in years past until just last week. When he loads up the curve he is flapping the glove just a smidge. I noticed it on 3 or 4 occasions and each time he threw the curve........ On slider or fastballs his glove is completely still.

That said, chuck kniffen sucks

Have the hitters been teeing off on said curveball or are they just jumping on fastballs?

Either way, by tipping one pitch, it makes it easier for the hitter to make a guess at what is coming.
