Bruser and MM - lets get started.
MM - this will take awhile. Please go through our closest games and blowout losses and make a list of plays that we gave up 10+ yards.
Please follow this format:
Please organize what you find by the offensive play (i.e. Shotgun, 5 wr set, Strong I, etc.).
Bruser - go ahead and continue to evaluate the Def. AI and post your comments in this thread.
Prior to the game I noticed the 5yd Def. wasn't inputting correctly - so I bumped it up to the top of the inputs to fix it. Prior to that the GLB sim would just pick up the first match and repond so the safeties we're always stuck outside the endzone.
The Def. AI should read Inside 5 input...not 3. My reasoning to putting goalline def as the main defense is this:
It is an effective defense against the Strong I formation...which is still a popular running attack...in regards vs. a pass play - it's not as vulnerable as some people think it is.
Typically the goal line defense will force pressure on the QB pretty quickly and he will have to get rid of it.
You'll have your CB1/CB2 covering the WR1/WR2 and a LB covering the TE. You can get burnt on it for sure, but that's pretty much the same with any defensive formation in the GLB world.
That being said, if a team throws a lot out of the Strong I, I tone down my use of the goal line, it's mainly used for when teams are run heavy out of that formation.
I'm not saying goal line is the only way to go. It's an option that good DC's should be implementing in their arsenal though... It is especially effective against teams that over use the off tackle and who are predictable in running in 2nd/3rd/4th short yardage situations...or when they are within 5 yards of scoring.
You'll also notice I sprinkled it on various running formations by breaking out the goal line against conventional I and weak I. I typically keep the GL D % at about 10% in those scenarios.
If you want to add a couple of more plays - go ahead and input it in.
In the redzone - more teams are using 5wr shotgun and WR screens to sneak in a TD. The DE contain pulls the DE's back into pass coverage...you'll see our DE's have great speed/agility for this. You are correct - it oddly works but that doesn't mean its something long term.
We do need to develop redzone def. settings though - perhaps you can create an input called redzone D that covers the 5 to 20 yard distance?

Ok, I got thru the first half of our last game, and I figured out you only ran 2 plays which, oddly worked very well.
Goalline and DE contain. so I tested it, for every one it came up with inside 3 input. and thats cuz someone idk if you did this, but set it as Opponents 5 and my 3 any down any formation any amount of WRs.
but like I said oddly these plays were working but I wouldn't suggest to stick with it.
