If you're hoping your team has a shot at wooing Marcus Camby away from Denver, better cool those hopes. Sources say the Nuggets and Camby essentially have the framework of a new contract in place, to be formalized in July, that will keep Camby in the Rocky Mountains and still enable Denver to be among the most active bidders on this summer's market.

--------------------------------------------------

Dallas' Steve Nash is among the free agents Denver will be pursuing, but the team with the best (albeit slim) chance of wooing Nash away from virtual blood brothers Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley is Phoenix. Nash never sold the house he bought as a Phoenix youngster -- his family still uses it -- and the early word is the Suns will make Nash their No. 1 free-agent target. Not Kobe Bryant, since the Suns see actually landing Bryant as a long-shot fantasy.

Or, they're using Nash as a smoke screen and already have Kobe in the bag!

Ugh. Really, though, I don't want to sign Nash to a long term deal. He'll be good and fun to watch and will make us better, but is not a long term solution. Too many nagging injuries. I really feel like, and I've read this somewhere else too, that Nash is just a couple of years from breaking down.

Nash has a player option of $5.7 million this season. I think he would require a similar contract as Brent Barry, probably more.

Both guys can really shoot. Barry would give more defense while Nash would juice up the offense. I'm not sure Barry will end up leaving Seattle any more than I think Nash will leave Dallas. If money is Nash's concern, he won't leave, but he may want to return "home".

Nash would be a stupid signing. He's not much of a defender, and part of the reason he's successful in Dallas is that all of his teammates can really shoot. What's he going to do in Phoenix, set up Marion for threes?

I'm not enthusiasic about Nash either, but he would help the Suns run the break much much better than have since Kidd left. It would be more exciting with Nash playing, but I'm not sure it makes the Suns a substantially better team.

I would love to have Steve Nash back. I don't get the people who don't think he would help.

Max effort every game. Top 5 point guard. Gets people involved. Loves to run. Can hit a shot from anywhere on the court.

And you don't want him because you "think" he'll break down?

While were at it, let's bring back Finley, too.

Nash, Finley, and Lampe (poor man's version of Dirk). Add Amare, Marion, Vujanic, and (insert big man)... you've got the makings of a squad who will fly up and down the court.

I don't know how to get it done, so I need all you cap space geniuses to try and figger it out. :D

I think the Phoenix Suns would be much, much better with Steve Nash, but I agree that it would be a stupid signing. If they don't commit to a long term (6 years) deal it would take at least $8-9 million per season to get him. Do the Suns really want to pay that much to a guy who can only really average around 30 minutes per game and is not getting any younger?

Offensively Nash is a perfect fit for the Phoenix Suns. He can run the fast break with the best of them. He will kill defenses that pay too much attention to Amare Stoudemire with his shooting. And when things stagnate in the half-court offense he can go to the rack and make things happen.

Defensively he definitely wouldn't make things any better. If they freed up enough money to sign Nash and Okur this team would light up the scoreboards with the best of them. On the other end of the court they would probably stink up the place with the worst of them though. :)

Although I am still crossing all my fingers & toes the basketball gods will deliver KOBE to us. I like Steve Nash alot.

His super hustle is contagous, his shooting would give us a dominant in & out game with Amare.

Marion would be A 3rd or fourth option like he should be, so he can focus on his defending & rebounding.

That could be a very good move.

Even if he is weak on D, it doesnt hurt as bad if the "bigs" can defend the paint.

If they did sign Nash, it would make alot more sence to sign Dampier to help fill on the defensive end.

Dampier / Amare / Marion / JJ / Nash

Man that would be a well balanced team...

Not that it would matter anything but the german basketball ( read Dallas Mavericks or Dirk Nowitzki) media had an article yesterday that Dallas might not be able to afford Nahs.

Nahs my reaction too. :D

Mark Cuban loans money to God. Being able to afford Nash is the least of his troubles.

There is no way Nash comes to Phoenix over money. They can't really afford more than something starting at about $6 million and Dallas can pay a lot more than that. Nash would have to take a big cut in potential salary to come here, only because he likes the place and the team.

I have to say I love watching Nash play, but I don't think he will ever be a good enough defender to get the Suns to the finals. In the playoffs, defense dominates.

Is anyone seriously trusting that an Amare (10mil), Marion(13mil), JJ (6mil), Nash(6mil) core is gonna to win it all anytime? I don't think any team with just one reliable one-on-one scorer is gonna win anything in this league. The Suns definitely need to add that second one-on-one scorer, in form of Kobe, McGrady or Pierce in the summer.
