A bettor could hit a remarkable parlay if Duke wins the 2025 men’s NCAA tournament.
Someone at the Hard Rock sports book needs the Blue Devils to complete a bet that was made in the spring of 2024 and could net $168,300. The five-leg parlay was on the champions of the 2024 College World Series, 2024 World Series, 2025 College Football Playoff national champion, the winner of Super Bowl LIX and the winner of the 2025 men’s tournament.
So far, everything has hit. Tennessee (+650) beat Texas A&M in three games to win the College World Series. The Los Angeles Dodgers (+300) beat the New York Yankees to win the College World Series. Ohio State (+450) bounced back from two regular-season losses to storm its way through the first 12-team playoff and beat Notre Dame for the title. And the Philadelphia Eagles (+1600) blew out the Kansas City Chiefs to deny Kansas City a third straight Super Bowl title.
With Duke at +1100 in the parlay, its odds to pay out were +3365900 on a $5 bet. That’s odds of 33,659-to-1. According to the National Weather Service odds of someone being struck by lightning in their lifetime in the United States is approximately 1-in-15,300.
The Blue Devils have as good a chance as anyone to win the NCAA tournament heading into the Sweet 16. Duke is the favorite to win the national title at BetMGM ahead of its game against Arizona on Thursday night. If Duke wins, it’ll play the winner of BYU and Alabama on Saturday in the Elite Eight.
If the bettor isn’t comfortable with a Duke win Thursday at least prolonging the tournament run, he or she can cash out for $50,000. That’s a lot of money. But If the person is willing to take the risk that Duke wins another game, that figure will likely go up before the Elite Eight and present an even bigger conundrum. Do you let it ride or take the guaranteed money?
