Jandaman...why? Who's the consensus #1 pick? I'll be honest...i dont know.
Look, i'm all for tanking but if i see an ESPN tracker showing the Suns traded Gortat,a promising young forward and a future pick WITHOUT involving Nashy or Over the Grant Hill i'm gonna blow a gasket.

You're gonna want your gasket blown, IMO. I'd definitely make that deal for the number one pick. I wouldn't do it for the chance to get the one spot but if the pick is locked I'd gamble on Anthony Davis growing into his potential. He's a game changer on the defensive end despite his slight frame and he has a chance to be as good as anyone in the game. If you want your team to move away from an offensive mindset, he's a great first step in that process. You'd still need a low post player to play alongside him but you wouldn't need to pair him with a great center, just a decent one.

I think a package of...

- Gortat
- Markieff Morris
- Suns 2014 Top 5 protected

Might be an acceptable deal for this year's 2012 No.1 overall pick...

Assuming the following teams get No.1
- Wizards
- Raptors
- Pistons

Or am I too optimistic?

Yes, you are.

Noone will trade down from Anthony Davis to a (nice) swingmen prospect for two (very) servicable role players.

Anthony Davis has a chance to surpass Gortat by All-Star break next season....

The guy is one in decade type of player.... We're talking college version of Marcus Camby with passing, dribbling skills....

6'10~6'11
7'4 Wingspan

Played as a Shooting Guard all his playing time until a couple of years ago, when he grew to 6'10.

As a "NEW" PF/C still learning how to play like a BIG man.... leads the entire college nation in blocks (4.7 BPG), among leaders in rebounds..... has coordination, athletism and agility comparable to a SF.... has dribbling skills, vision, IQ of a shooting guard/wing..... Dominating the PF/C spot with 2 years experience as a BIG....

We might be seeing a player who will translate to the NBA as a hybrid of Marion, Garnett and Camby.....

Would of been the ULTIMATE Run and Gun PF for the Suns back in SSOL.... most likely going to be a play making, facilitating ALL-Around defender on any other NBA teams...

12ppg
8rpg
2.5bpg
2.5apg
1.0spg

Rookie...

Then, when he further adjusts to the league...

17ppg
12rpg
3.5bpg
4apg
1.5spg

type of player, who doesnt jack up shots, but rather play within the system.... but can guard ALL positions on the court....

Thanks for the lowdown. I'll have to watch some film on this guy. Your description of this kids game put visions of H.Olajuwon in my head....and i almost got a hard on. :D

Camby at the 5 during the SSOL years would've garnered championships here. Sadly the Suns decided that type of role was expendable(KT).

Well, I don't see Hakeem at all but he's valuable already and has tremendous up-side. Right now, he doesn't have the frame to survive in the low post but he's a great help defender and he can guard other positions straight up. I think he has the potential to eventually be a cross between Durant and Garnett but right now his defense is much further along than his offensive game. His game hasn't really evolved enough to know for sure just what he can do. That happens often with guys who get their height late.

His shoulders are pretty wide and broad though... Durant's shoulder width was as wide as an average 5'10 person.... Anthony Davis's shoulder width/frame is similar to Garnett/Duncan but thin...... basically if he undertakes weight lifting as part of his training, he will fill out in 2 seasons.... Look at Gortat when he was drafted and look at Gortat today..... skinny to beefy!

Hakeem had all-world, NBA-GOAT type footwork and post moves though..... Davis doesnt have them... he may develop some... but Hakeem's moveset/footwork/talent combo might be once in a lifetime type....

But just imagine all the things Marion, Garnett and Camby brings to the table... and Davis brings in bits and pieces from these players packaged to one...

I would definitely do that, I would probably throw in Dudley too and take back a bad contract like Okafor from New Orleans.

I would also give up Gortat and Morris for the #2 pick Drummond.

I don't think any team gives up the #1 no matter what. However, I would do that deal in a heartbeat for Davis and probably Drummond. Mainly because you could be getting a legit franchise big man in return.

I have to put more thought into it but I don't think I would pull the trigger on the next 3 projected picks (Barnes, Robinson or Lamb). Barnes is compared to Deng and he might be really good but not a franchise player. Robinson is a 6-8 PF and that usually doesn't translate will in the NBA but there are exceptions. Lamb is a SG and I just don't like the idea of giving up our only legit big man for a SG or PG.

There is a huge gap between Andre Drummond and Anthony Davis.

It is far away from being written that Drummond will be even a #2 pick.

I like that deal too. I like Gortat, but that deal leaves us our own pick as well. Add the #1 and say the #9 pick in this deep of a draft, yeah, I am ok with that.

Gortat's trade value is pretty high IMO. It might be higher now that it ever will be, because he has shown great potential and he has a decent amount of time left on a reasonable contract. Not saying we should trade him though.
