Yeah, I realize that Marcus has no trade value right now. However, he will be getting a second chance by D'Antoni. Kerr will most likely be prodding D'Antoni to play him as well. A good start of the season by Banks could raise his value high enough to garner interest from a team desperate for a point guard. I think that it's safe to assume that an opportunity to trade Banks would be jumped on by the Suns. Any guesses/predictions?

Banks and Pike to the Clips for Tim Thomas.

Banks has 4 years left on his contract for over 17 mil. TT has 3 years left on his contract for over 18 mil. This move wouldn't help us this year as far as the LT is concerned, but it does give us size and a player who is proven to be able to produce in D'Antoni's system and play big in the playoffs.

Baring another deal, Banks has a shot at being in the rotation. Obviously he needs to play more of a "team style", but he could get some minutes as the Suns try to play like the Warriors.

I'd go farther than that: Barring another deal, Banks almost has to be in the rotation. Last year's backup PG duties were shared by Diaw and Barbosa. But Diaw will now be at a big position full-time, and Barbosa will be spending most of his time at SG, when Bell has to move up.

The Suns had a too-short rotation last year, and now they're even shorter. They're going to need every warm body they can find.

I would jump all over this if the Suns could get it done. D'Antoni said something that if one over pays for a player like TT it will make you cry. The only tears I shed were when TT departed and Banks arrived.

Yes, Banks should get some playing time this year to increase his value if nothing else, but does a leopard (D'Antoni) change his spots?

There is zero chance that Marcus Banks and Piatkoski get traded for anything other than a worse contract. Please don't fool yourself into thinking that there is any reasonable chance that we will end up with Tim Thomas for that garbage.

Miami is desperate for a pg and wanted Banks last year. Not sure if it's any indication of what their front office would do but their fans seem to want a Banks for Doleac(who has an expiring contract) trade, which I'd be in favor of.

Please note that my proposition hinges on Banks being able to raise his trade value. However unlikely you think that happens to be, is not the premise of the thread.

Why is Pike even mentioned at all? With his minimum salary, the only reason anybody would trade for him is if they thought he can play. Which he can't, so he won't be traded. There's no logical reason to.

I had to include Pike in order for the salaries to match. TT makes more money per year.

I would not totally dismiss the chances of making a deal with the Heat. Kapono was a younger version of Pike and that is a team that is in serious need of three point shooting. But at this point it is not a priority.

I disagree. Pike is worth nothing besides filler to match salaries in a trade.

If we're going to move Banks, it will obviously have to be for a bad contract. If the Timberwolves buy-out or cut Troy Hudson they'll need another pg, and since Banks didn't completely suck in Minnesota, maybe Kevin McHale would be stupid enough to send us Trenton Hassell for Banks.

Right now, Marcus Banks would yield a Twinkie in a trade return...

...but only if the Suns give up the Atlanta pick. If a productive big man (KT) who is an expiring contract...costs the Suns picks...

...then Banks...who is signed to a multi-year deal...will probably cost then Atlanta's pick...plus Marion...(according to Kerr logic).

So far, Kerr has a solid grade of "B" in his role as GM...

("B" for but muncher).
