If I see people like this, I try to conspicously box their cars in with shopping carts or something like that (when I see a young able bodied person park in HC area).

That sucks.

When I pick up my daughter from day care, I often see this lady park in the HC area & she's a soccer mom - mid 30s, able bodied, but thinks that the rules don't apply to her.

I had a bad day & she parked in the HC space when the lot was pretty full (there were avail spots, but you had to walk 2-3 rows over - she usually does this 1/3 of the time) so I parked in the spot to the left of the HC spot & hugged the right line, so my passenger door was like 4 inches from her driver door. She passed me in the hall entry - she was going out & I was going in.

I took my good old time picking up my daughter, talked to the day care teachers, asked the fat lady at the front desk how her day went, even strolled around the different classrooms to find my girl's sippy cup....

When I got outside a good 5-10 minutes later, she was steaming mad, yelling that she couldn't get into her van, how dare I box her in blah blah blah.

I just looked at her and said "Hmmm..that's pretty interesting. You are parked in a HC zone & you're not HC. Don't yell at me. You're the ass-hole" and I took my time, put my daughter safely in her car seat via the drivers side, got her all good & buckled in, found a good radio station, adjusted all the mirrors, fixed my hair, looked for loose change under the seat, & eventually left.

I have not seen her park in the HC space since.

Maybe if the fat lazy bastard parked in a regular parking space, he would have added a few extra feet to his exercise routine and he'd still be here. What a ********. Guess it's all in how things come around.

2nd on that.

I hate when I see that. My Gramps (RIP) had lost his leg in the 1940's had a prothestic basically his entire adult life. To think of him, especially in AZ, not being able to secure handicapped spot in his old age because some lazy ass took it makes me want to run over the responsible party and make them now what those spaces are meant for.

I also hate the people that seat in the handicapped section directly behind the North Goal Post at SDS. I lose my voice yelling untold things at them every game.

"Having a fat assed wife, is not a handicap!" Is one of my favs. Especially since the wife was sitting right next to him. How do they get those seats?

I'm not impressed, not that you care what I think. You're no better than she is for pulling that crap. And your reference to the lady at the front desk is nothing to proud about either. How old is your kid? Think she learned a good lesson here?

Things are not always as they appear. My ex-brother-in-law had a very severe back problem; some days he was ok, other days he could barely move. He had a handicapped placard, and was regularly harassed when he parked in a h/c spot because he did not always appear to be handicapped.

I hate it when I see someone abuse the h/c parking.

You guys don't know this but there are 3 WC parking places at the Cards facility.

Marcus Bell used to park his SUV in one of them, hang an expired Tennessee handicap placard from the mirror and go practice. I complained to everybody that mattered. No action.

In that case I'm glad he was cut. People like that are always looking for a shortcut, I would assume it would carry over to his career too.

In my apartment complex there's a space that people constantly park in with no placard, and a loading only space same thing. I've had arguments with 3 or 4 people because I "dared" to ask them why the hell they were parking in a space they weren't allowed to. One guy told me it was a private lot, I pay rent, I'll park wherever the hell I want to. So I told him "I pay rent too, I have a cellphone, I'll just call and report your license plate and we'll see if the local cops care that you pay rent."

I have several pet peeves in that regard. A guy with 2001 Oregon plates that he hasn't bothered to pay to register, he's been in California 3 years with all the budget problems and he won't legally register his truck.

Last night my girlfriend and i were walking around and came across a big 4 x 4 parked in a fire lane. Visible through the front window is a San Jose Fire baseball cap!

So you would prefer he did nothing and let it slide? What lesson would that teach?

Nah, if you see someone doing wrong like that you screw with them. They obviously think they're above the rules everyone else plays by. MD said he parked in the open space next to the HC one but just pulled in a little tight. Nothing wrong with that.

And the fat lady reference? Well, is she? Or are you inferring that she is but the rest of the world can't acknowledge that or he should have been more PC?

Ok Ok.....

I'm one of the ******** on this board. I've parked in the handicap spaces before. I actually had a handicap spot I used to park at everyday right off campus. I've never once seen any other car parked in that space however, and I had the plate to park there (thus I was never towed).

But I haven't parked there in over a year. Cubbie talked about this in another thread a year ago, and I felt so bad that I never parked in that space again.

Who cares if he said she was fat. Way too much looking into that. My mom's fat and she'll be the first to admit it. Fat - skinny. Small - Large. Smelly - Not Smelly. Red - Blue. Who cares?

A 5'8'', 400 pound man is fat. Oh no no, he's just big boned. Right.

And to keep this somewhat on topic, Yes, Marcus Bell, not cool what he used to do.

That is lame - especially from a pro athlete. Looking to cut corners - not cool and not what you would expect.

I don't think I've ever parked in a handicapped space. A couple of months ago I had to run into the office to pick something up at 4am before my 6am flight, and I wouldn't even park in the HC space even tho I was the only person there. Kinda weird, but just something hard-wired that I don't think about like wearing my seatbelt.

Frankly I don't give a rat's ass what you think & that you're not impressed. I never said I was out to impress anyone.

There is a handicapped child there & I see his parents pull their big van in with the side lift a few times a month. This insensitive soccer mom knows that this child with severe MS goes there & she still did this. I should've had the lady's car towed. I'd do it again everyday if I see he do it again.

As for the lady at the front desk, she's 300+. Nice lady, big lady. No one ever talks to her. I say howdy to her & ask her how her day is. Everyday.

My girl is 2. She knows her alphabet, can count to 15, can do a cartwheel & somersault. She's the only one in her class that knows her colors & can identify 37 different animals form a book.

She knows that the HC spot is for the wheel chair. She knows this because of the white symbol painted on the ground that I told her about. My 2 year old knows this. THe soccer mom didn't care.

The soccer mom doesn't park there anymore. Small victory for the van with the side lift. I parked in a regular space, between the lines (admittingly hugged the right line as close as I could). She deserved what she got.

Some of the people in front of me are handicapped. The Avengers. Red Heart. The Wild Cards. The dudes sitting in those chairs on the field are not.

Ditto, I get called into work late at night fairly regularly because of false alarms on the burglar alarm. 2 am empty lot and I still won't park in the HC spaces.

I agree totally with Russ's comment:
In that case I'm glad he was cut. People like that are always looking for a shortcut, I would assume it would carry over to his career too.

There are 2 main aspects of this that I dislike.

First is the concept that Russ stated, along with what some others have said about the "I'm better than others" attitude. We all live our lives in a fashion set by our habits....good or bad. The lazy "looking for a shortcut" mental attitude is a loser's one, to me. Coupled with the lack of respect for others, which usually stems from a lack of true respect for oneself. ...which brings me to aspect #2:
Often those abusers are indeed fat, the ones who should be walking the extra distance. Fat generally equates to lazy. (not always, but most of the time anyway)...and/or poor habits and self-image.
I am often amazed at how often I will see people cruising parking lots, often stopped and blocking the traffic lane, waiting for a space to open up, so they won't have to walk a few extra steps. It cracks me up, just like the man sitting on the hood story....they would have also saved time by simply parking a few feet farther away and got some healthy exercise at the same time.

This "me first" trend that has seemingly become more and more evident, to me, is only the tip of the ice berg of an unhealthy trend in our society right now.

I said before, in the Dennis Green screwup thread, that there must be some other reasons that we didn't know about as to Bell's getting his walking papers. Maybe now we are seeing a clue of what that might be.

As Tom Hanks would say: "Lazy is as lazy does".

What struck me was Skorp saying Bell had an old expired Tennessee HC plate, in other words this wasn't a spur of the moment I'm in a rush situation, this was a guy planning this and acquiring the plate so he could do it(maybe from a family member or who knows where).

I readily admit this stuff bothers me a lot more than it should. My girlfriend gets furious with me because when we go for walks I'm constantly pointing out expired tags on cars that I know are being driven. One of my real pet peeves is the guy who pulls up, double parks, puts on his emergency flashers, and then goes and unloads his groceries into his apartment. Flashers are for an emergency, not to indicate "hey I'm to fricking lazy to park in my assigned spot and carry my groceries so I'm going to double park instead."

If Bell was that lazy that he actually planned to do something like this it tells you a lot because let's face it NFL players don't have to compete for parking spaces for practice there are enough spaces for them already.

Glad you reported it Skorp and shame on the Cards for not taking any action and citing Bell or telling him to stop it. You'd think the nonsense with the UCLA players doing this would make it too embarassing for another athlete to try it but apparently not.
