cooper looks to be a high risk high reward type player.. maybe not exactly what we needed... but he fits the defense.

I think Powers was once decent, but his play had declined by the time the Cards let him go. Cooper is not a great cornerback, but you're not going to get one of those on the cheap. Most teams give a little more help to their second corner, so this defense is challenging. Considering where the Cards were, he's been quite a find. He does have flaws in his game some of which may be correctable with time and good coaching. He seems to have a nose for the ball and isn't afraid to take a chance. They jury is still out on his judgment. I think it's to early to extend him but if he plays this good by mid-season I'd agree.

now can we talk about Swearinger? I guess he's ok in run support but he seems completely lost in coverage. AS K9 said you just can't rely on him being where he's supposed to be.

Dropped an easy pick last night too and had another player where if he goes for the ball it might be a pick but he was going to try and light the defender up then changed his mind and wound up lucky the guy didn't make the catch.

There was a reason why this guy was available. He just isn't very good. Big hitter but not much more.

Yeah Swearinger shouldnt be playing more than 20% of snaps. He has experience with Branch out and he brings some fire to the defense, thats about it.

Here is my hot take on a government holiday...If we had a better FS, Peterson, Cooper, Williams and Bethel could be a top 10 group over the next 4 years. They all have size and speed, but they just need their technique refined and more consistent help over the top. Having a quality FS behind them would allow them to press more comfortably.

Another secondary thought. it sucks that Jefferson and Mathieu can't seem to be on the field at the same time. Their skill sets seem to be too similar, and size+speed limts their ability to do other things.

Great point about Jefferson and Honey Badger playing the same position---but they both are on the field 67% of the time. I have thought about this a lot and have been wondering if the Cardinals could play a version of the 4-2-2(SS), with Jefferson and Honey Badge on opposite sides.
