Funny people still blaming him for KG when its pretty much been said now that Marion was NEVER involved in a KG deal. Geesh some people just don't get it. He busted his ass for the Suns for a long time and deserves to be in the ROH when he decides to hang it up. Thank You Marion!

If you really want to dredge up the reports it did in fact happen. It might not be common knowledge because Suns brass didn't want to ignite the hyper sensitive Marion but every indication at the time was the deal was signed off on and Marion didn't want to go to Boston.

You can love him. I don't have too. Listen i love what he did on the floor but I never liked his game, thought he was way overpaid, and how much of a cancer did he have to be for the Suns to take this risk.

Shawn good luck - I just think you are about to get what you deserve. And if i am wrong, good for you.

But otherwise be careful what you wish for.

I think Cinderella (the music group, not the Disney character) said it best when they sang "Don't Know What You Got... Till It's Gone". Those words are my view on Shawn Marion's impact as a Phoenix Sun and what he meant to this team and this community.

Often times, Marion's contributions as a point scorer and rebounder were taken for granted. I think we all began to expect more from him, especially in the playoffs, however what cannot be lost nor forgotten is what he did do during the regular season, which was be one of the most consistent players in the game. With Matrix, you KNEW you were getting 20-10 a night. You knew his defense, which continuously improved throughout his time here, was going to be solid. You knew that he was going to be good for one or two highlight reel dunks per game. You also knew that he was a good ambassador to this city and treated his fans very well.

I'm understanding the perspective of the Suns, this deal HAD to happen. However, that's not to say that I have the same adulation to see Marion go as some of you do.

Good luck wherever you wind up Matrix.. Your impact on this team and more importantly this city will not be forgotten. My only hope is that you wind up like Dan Majerle and eventually return to the team to end your career and eventually wind up in the Ring of Honor.. Lastly Shawn, and I say this for everyone who appreciated you and for those who didn't but should have.... Thank you Shawn Marion.

But that has absolutely not been the case this year. His effort and numbers have been so inconsistent; how many games has he just disappeared from? He's been a non factor way more this year then in any other year, and I'd bet it's because of his attitude, which screws with his effort, and with Shawn effort is what really drives his game.

That said, good luck to him, hopefully he doesn't have to realize that he didn't know what he had until it was gone.

Not true. Marion was the principle in the deal offered by the Suns. The Suns would NEVER EVER admit to it. However, the willingness to trade Marion for an aging SHAQ is proof positive that those rumors were true.

If the Suns were willing to part with Marion for Shaq, they sure as hell would have done it for KG. I think that this has been rehashed to death but with all the conflicting reports it appears the Suns were willing to part with Marion but the Celtics wanted Amare. It died right there.

I don't blame Marion one bit in anything that is outside his control. Even trade talks. Good luck to Marion and I hope he kicks @SS over there.

The fact the Celtics wanted Amare is the point, christ you guys act like they had a deal for Marion. They have said NO Marion was not even involved in any deal bringing Garnett. You guys are just ... whatever your clearly gonna believe what you want even though its wrong and been CONFIRMED as wrong. Good Luck Shawn!

(not to hijack the thread) but Boston would have taken Marion in a deal that didn't involve KG. That much was known.

As far as what it would have taken to get KG, who the hell knows?!

This is my first post here and I like to dedicate it to Shawn Marion. A fantastic player, on both ends of the court. Good luck to you!

______
I'm new here and what you might already have figured out is that I'm from Sweden. A very small, and today very cold country. Anyway in this country of mine we don't speak or write in english very much so my posts won't be all perfect. But hopefully you will understand most of what I'm writing so we can discuss what I've come here to discuss, The might Suns!

All the best

Marion, who was unavailable for comment, had one moment in his Suns’ career that stands out over all the others.
That game-tying and series-saving 3-pointer Tim Thomas hit with 6.3 seconds left in Game 6 of the Suns’ 2006 playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers? It was Marion who corralled the offensive rebound and tapped it back to Thomas for the open shot.

Thanks for the memories.

Nashman....I think your the only one that doesn't get it. Several reports claimed the initial talks were around Marion and then switched to Amare once Marion and his agent claimed to have no interest in going to Boston. Another conflicting report says they got greedy and wanted Amare instead.

The general public will never know the entire true story. However, clearly the Suns were willing to move Marion and not Amare. No deal was ever on the table for either player. Most of the comments people are making are around those discussions. I have not read people making statements that a deal was done for either player. They were just trade discussions.

However, here is what we do know:

Fact: The Suns claimed their never had a deal in place with Amare for KG per Steve Kerr KTAR interview.

Fact: D'Antoni on The Coaches Show also said there never was a deal for Amare and KG but when asked about Marion didn't answer the question other then that "we are always willing to listen but people call about Marion every year but nothing ever comes of it".

Fact: The Suns would never admit they they had conversations about either player Shawn or Amare other then listening to offers for fear of it falling through and players becoming disgruntled.

Fact: The Suns claim they would never considered trading Amare or Marion but yet just traded Marion. This was after Sarver said 2 weeks ago he will not trade the Core.

Fact: There were too may leaked reports about both Marion and Amare for nothing to be true. Where there was smoke there was fire.

Fact: The only thing that can now be confirmed is that the Suns are were wiling to part with Marion for the right player. There is no way they would not have been willing to do the same for KG.

Fact: There is zero indication the Suns have ever been willing to part with Amare.

So when someone says that the Suns were willing to send Marion for KG but the talks stalled when they wanted Amare, that is the most plausible scenario considering what just happened.

GOOD LUCK MARION.

Obviously the Suns would have traded Marion for Garnett thats a no brainer. People are mad at Marion for messing up a Garnett deal, thats the stupid point their WAS NO DEAL getting Garnett for Marion geesh. No sh** the Suns WOULD have traded Marion for Garnett but that deal was NEVER even an option, and yet people on here claim Marion cost us Garnett. Just dumb whatever tired of even talking about it hes gone good luck to him in the future.

WAS NO DEAL getting Garnett for Marion geesh.

Says you. I believe there was. Through I seriously doubt the story myself about Marion nixing the Celtics deal. Especially, considering he wanted out of here and winning doesn't seem to be a priority for him.

The more believable scenario is that the Suns were ready to send Marion then someone got greedy and wanted Amare that killed any chance of a deal for KG. I have no doubt though there was a discussed deal involving Marion.

In the end, does O’Neal’s size and strength – his defense and rebounding – make up for the loss of Marion? Here was a player as unique as any in the league, assigned to defend the Spurs’ Tony Parker one night in the playoffs and Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki another. Marion was the highest-paid player on the Suns, but wanted an extension past next season that management wouldn’t do. Over the summer, he demanded a trade, but killed a deal that would’ve sent him to the Celtics and Garnett to the Suns

It has been reported by virtually every local media person that the trade was Marion and Atlanta's #1. The Celtics were largely interested in acquiring a top 3 draft pick. Once the Suns lost that pick, then Amare was shopped as a way to acquire the picksplayers to get Garnett.

I trust the local media guys because they spend a lot of time talking to players and to team insiders. That story completely jives with virtually every reported rumor.

There is simply no way that Marion for Garnett was happening once we lost Atlanta's pick.

nashman you are pretty much completely wrong. Its ok if you havent been as informed as others who invest time into the details, but dont come on here and flip out when someone makes the connection between marion and garnett.

In THE article where marion called up his journalist buddy and announced his desire to be traded, he ADMITTED he didnt want to go to boston (the deal which was still hanging by a thread post-draft which brought KG here for KT and the remains of the marion to boston trade), the SAME article where he hinted he was looking for a 3/60 extension.

Now stop hatin, and get appreciatin

There is no doubt in my mind Marion will be in the ring of honor. The things he did, he did well and often, and by doing those things well, established himself as one of the highest paid athletes in the league.

I don't think a player that demands a trade from a team really belongs in its Ring of Honor. The same applies to Barkley.

Love the comments on the 'appreciation' thread that refer to Marion as the cancer in the locker room. The cancer surfaced a year before this season when the Suns trained in Italy, and guess what -- as one columnist suggested, it's still there. It will go into remission for a while until the honeymoon with Shaq is over -- "nodoubtaboutit" -- although some of Shaq's recent comments may not be sitting very well with the patient. Shaq has already been assigned his place at the top of the totem pole and the head of the pecking order Kerr mentioned. Suns now have a one-year (this year) window to get the title, kind of a four-months-to-live prognosis. If that doesn't happen, the Shaq-Kobe and Shaq-Wade spats will pale by comparison.

Best of luck to Shawn in Miami. His remarks about the trade have been nothing but classy, and Dwyane Wade is probably the happiest guy on any planet that isn't orange.
