Here is the latest from Paul Coro's blog on yet another Marion incident:

Lost in the notebook from Monday, Shawn Marion was queried with the oft-asked question that has no answer: who will guard Tim Duncan?

Marion said, "I don't know," before pausing as some reporters chuckled and then adding, "That's not funny."

He smiled but you know there was a part of him -- the part that wants to be exclusively a small forward -- that wonders if he is not going to be part of the attempt to solve that riddle. He did not spend all of his time at the four in the Suns' first scrimmages.

His team was the starters. That included Boris Diaw in place of Amare Stoudemire and Eric Piatkowski as a sub with Steve Nash, Raja Bell, Grant Hill and Marion. When Diaw subbed out, there was Marion playing the five against Sean Marks. It's semantics with the Suns anyway. The four and the five do much of the same things, just like the two and the three are interchangeable. The only real difference is who they cover defensively.
Marion won't have to worry about the big fellas.

"I don't have a problem," Stoudemire said of guarding the league's biggest centers. "I guard Shaq, Yao Ming, Dwight Howard, all the 7-footers throughout the conference. I got 'em."

-------------------------------------------

44's Comments:

I think I have had just about enough of Shawn Marion. I can tell this craziness is going to go on all season long - and the season hasn't started yet.

Everyday is the same: How is Marion acting? Do you still want to get traded? Is Marion smiling today? Does he want to play power forward?

When asked if championships are important, he said, "Yes, but there are things more important than a championship too." True, but that statement also indicates you don't want to be here.

There are many who would love to play starting power forward for the Suns - and Marion is wasting that space. He is an annoying cancer on this team and must go.

This is the Suns. A Team. It is not about the individual and reports everyday should not focus on one guy. Amare, Nash, Hill, Bell, Diaw, and Barbosa are such gentlemen and accept their place on the team. Marion keeps whining that he doesn't want to play power forward and instead of saying "I'll try to guard him or do the best I can," he says, "I don't know. It's not funny" regarding Tim Duncan. Such a poor loser.

Marion's stupid attitude is going to harm the chemistry even more than if the Suns were to bring in a new player. Toss him out and bring in AK or Lamar.

Here is the way I see it now:

Marion is 1 of 13 players on the team. That is roughly 8 percent of the club. Right now, I have respect for 12 of 13 guys and therefore am a 92% Suns Fan - not 100%. Stupid ******* Marion.

Okay. Now begin your daily Sunsman44 bashing below. It is becoming a tradition every morning. Come on. Throw your punches at me. Just won't be reading any of your comments whatsoever.

then why post at all?

do you ever think about how it is possible an entire group of people can feel a certain way about you? ever wonder why that is?

is it that everyone here is absolutely stupid and you are here to enlighten us, or could it possibly be something else?

of course, you're not reading this post, so no response (intelligent or otherwise) can be expected.

I lied and read your response. Sorry.

If I had D'Antoni or Marion's phone number, I'd call them and tell them my thoughts. I want the Suns to hear my dissapointment.

As a fan who invested much money in the past, I need to be compensated for somehow. Having a disruptive Marion doesn't help the case and hence why I want to speak my opinion out somehow somewhere.

Problem is, I have a keyboard and this forum. I do not have Marion's number nor do I have a loudspeaker to go in front of their home.

Starting now, I am going to be a 92% Suns fan until Marion leaves.

Based on what you posted Marion did not say/do anything negative.

Coro is taking the comment about not knowing who will guard Duncan as Marion's secret wish to play SF again.

So what.

Amare specifically had KT brought in by the FO so he wouldn't have to defend the big guys of the conference because he didn't want to play the 5. He has since changed his tone and often refers to wanting to be the "point center".

ridiculous.. marion didnt say anything worth bringing up...

And who guards Duncan?... NO ONE can. Maybe if you go back in time and actually bring back centers long enough, athletic enough and actually smart enough to guard him.... funny one of them was his ex-team mate the Admiral... The Dream, Young-Zo, Young Mt Mutombo, Young Shaq...(well not so much).. but the other 4 are good enough defensively and has the tools to literally counter measure Duncan's game.

Would you mind providing a quote with the "Stupid Marion remark" that you are talking about in the title of this thread? Or could you change the title to something like "I'm really mad at Shawn" or "Shawn is a big jerk-face" or something else more appropriate?

Marion said, "I don't know," before pausing as some reporters chuckled and then adding, "That's not funny."

He smiled but you know there was a part of him -- the part that wants to be exclusively a small forward -- that wonders if he is not going to be part of the attempt to solve that riddle. He did not spend all of his time at the four in the Suns' first scrimmages.

It is pretty funny if you think about it. I'm sure someone said "You will Shawn" and he said "that's not funny!" in a playful way. If I was Shawn Marion I wouldn't want to guard Duncan either!!

I think I have had just about enough of Shawn Marion. I can tell this craziness is going to go on all season long - and the season hasn't started yet.

Everyday is the same: How is Marion acting? Do you still want to get traded? Is Marion smiling today? Does he want to play power forward?

Shawn doesn't tell the press what questions to ask him. He's not suppose to be open and honest with his replies?

When asked if championships are important, he said, "Yes, but there are things more important than a championship too." True, but that statement also indicates you don't want to be here.

Uhh yeah and the fact that he ASKED TO BE TRADED is probobly a strong indication that he doesn't want to be here. He doesn't want to be here, big deal. He's under contract and if he wants more money he better have the best season of his career. Him wanting to be here or not isn't going to effect his performance.

There are many who would love to play starting power forward for the Suns - and Marion is wasting that space. He is an annoying cancer on this team and must go.

Wasting space? He's coming off an All-Star season. His third in a row. How many teams wish they had such a "waste of space" on their bench. Now he's a cancer? Who is going to pick up on his attitude?

This is the Suns. A Team. It is not about the individual and reports everyday should not focus on one guy.

The press ask the questions. Once again, Marion does not tell the press what questions to ask.

Amare, Nash, Hill, Bell, Diaw, and Barbosa are such gentlemen and accept their place on the team.

Yes Shawn is a whiner. We all have known this to some extent for a while, and now it's just out there for all to see. He's no different than the whining Shawn of years past. He says stupid things, then goes out there and plays fantastic. Shawn is healthier than all the other players mentioned and has always lived up to every penny paid to him. The same can't be said of Hill and Diaw. Amare and Nash have injury issues and Barbosa isn't without his short comings. They are all flawed human beings.

Marion keeps whining that he doesn't want to play power forward and instead of saying "I'll try to guard him or do the best I can," he says, "I don't know. It's not funny" regarding Tim Duncan. Such a poor loser.

Stop letting the media control you so much! Do you think that was the entire conversation? I'm sure he said something to the effect of "I'll try and do the best I can to help the team" but that doesn't really catch readers attention.

Marion's stupid attitude is going to harm the chemistry even more than if the Suns were to bring in a new player. Toss him out and bring in AK or Lamar.

Lamar, who can't pass a physical right now and who the Lakers don't want to trade for Marion or AK. AK who has BLASTED his team in a BLOG all summer long, is known as a sulky underperformer; all the sudden now is better for team chemistry?

Okay. Now begin your daily Sunsman44 bashing below. It is becoming a tradition every morning. Come on. Throw your punches at me. Just won't be reading any of your comments whatsoever.

IMO, I think Marion made a very good point, not a stupid remark. It's actually not funny. The Duncan comment is right on (even Dirk's name could have been substituted here). Marion is constantly called upon to play out of position for the Suns. I believe his true position is SF but he plays primarily PF because the Suns need him there. This is a reason why Marion has been so maligned by fans especially in the playoffs. He frequenty has to play out of position on the Suns having to guard 4's, 5's (much taller than him) and even PG's (see Tony Parker).

It seems Marion is always having to play the mismatch. Even though he may be the Suns best defender he's always put in position where he is frequently subject to losing the match-up and gain the wrath of the fans. I'm with Marion on this point and it's not funny.

Wanna know what's ironic? Shawn Marion has consistently always played his best when he's at the PF position. In fact, in those cases where he played SF, he was pretty ineffective. I submit that Shawn got his huge contract not because of his play as a SF, but as a PF.

Well, not quite. Marion got his big contract many years ago, and it's only during the D'Antoni era that he has spent most of his time at PF. He played almost exclusively SF under Johnson and Skiles.

I think your right about his ability to gain the advantage in the regular season at the PF position when the Suns are running although I think he would fit best at SF long term because the the Suns would have to have a bigger presence at PF. However, if the game slows to half court in the playoffs Marion looks lost offensively because he is not a good outside shooter nor can he drive the ball to the basket. Also on defense he is having to guard much taller bigs which can shoot over the top or small penetrating PG's that can get by him.

I guess I just think Suns fans should consider match-up problems the next time he has to guard players like Dirk or Tony Parker in the playoffs and understand why Marion has problems with these match-ups.

Well said. Exactly what I wanted to hear.

A wise man once told me basing on assumption is never a good thing.

Wow, way to fall to the point of name calling. Shows your true colors.

It is no secret I bleed true Suns colors 92% of the time. The other 8% is regular blood and will return to Suns colors once idiot Marion leaves.

Please stop referring to yourself in 3rd person

Haha. Your funny.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Exactly. Marion is a PF. Live with it. Deal with it. He needs to realize it.
