Marion will avg about 13-14 boards a game with all the bricks launched in the East.

But his numbers were the same with Kidd and with Marbs, so it doesn't surprise me at all.

It doesn't surprise me at all either, Griffin. That was aimed at all the predictions that he'd flop without Nash, owed his stats to the Suns system, blah, blah. I'm a big Marion fan, always have been.

And does anyone have any reports/links about Banks to back up these claims that he was selfish and a poor worker? Everything I read had been his charitable efforts and his tying to learn from Steve. I just don't get it.

It was mostly from radio talk - lots of those guys always said Banks had an "attitude" and didn't want to work hard in practice. I can only surmise that he and D'Antoni didn't see eye to eye.

I really don't get the Banks hate at all? I always felt he busted his ass out there and was penalized for not being Steve Nash by D'antoni. And unlike Barbosa, no one decided to have an assistant take Marcus as his pet project and grow him. I love Mike but I think his handling of Banks was a crime as it seems he was against him from the start.

I for one think he is a good numbers guy but not really a player conducive to consistent winning at this point in his career. But i do think both he ans Shawn will get their numbers in Miami and make it seem like a great trade but not win a damn thing with them.

Anyone else see that alley-oop at the end of the game that wade missed Shawn on to get within 4???

For as good as Wade is - That ain't Steve Nash throwing you passes anymore Shawn:)

I can tell you for a fact that at least last year his work ethic was not something to be proud of.

That makes sense as I don't hear local radio here in Florida. With Pat Riley cracking the whip and what he likely took away from Nash I could see Marcus taking off here in South Beach.

Then again I have read about his collection of over the top cars and enjoyment of the night life and that would fit in all to well out here.

I'm missing Marion for the suns already felt really really strange watching him play for the heat :(...

Agreed. I realize this will probably sound like a severe case of man crush, but you all agree with me on some level. I didn't expect to feel this sad about it, but honestly I miss Marion. I know we all got on him for various things during the last couple of years, but when all is said and done we all loved him. Guy committed almost 9 years of his life to us and I think it's only natural to feel sad about him leaving. I wish nothing but the best for the Matrix in his future, and I really do hope he finds success regardless of the team he plays for. Marion was the one guy who would always give us a lift during those rough seasons. We had a couple of seasons where the losses outweighed the wins, but Shawn was always the spark waiting to ignite in that offense and when we finally got some supporting cast for him, boy did he ignite. I wish nothing but the best for the Matrix in his future, and I really do hope he finds success regardless of the team he plays for. We'll miss you buddy, but, to me at least, you will always be purple and orange.

Banks attitude problems were widely discussed on KTAR at the day of the trade. Said to be immensely unpopular in the locker room. Big self promoter. Would tell people he was the "First there, last to leave guy" when that was never the case.

Straight called a locker room cancer.

Good stats by Marion in his 1st game, but he also played 44 minutes. He was getting just about those same stats in Phx in 36 minutes. It'll take him a while to work his way into the offense and have Riley develop some plays for him. Shawn basically just did the same thing he's been doing in Phx the last few years and that's clean up the garbage on offense and play some scrappy defense.

Marion played well... extremely well for his first game on his new team...

and Odom always like playing against Shawn... he plays motivated... more energy.. etc.

only if he could do that against everyone... he'd be a multiple all-star today...

I guess this proves to those who seem to have forgotten, Marion did not owe his success to Steve Nash. He is exactly the same player no matter what.

Rather than starting another thread, maybe we should keep this thread as an ongoing Marion watch?

He's got 20 points and SEVENTEEN rebounds against the Nuggs with 2:30 to go.

Nice game.

This is the second time in a row that the Heat have given a scare to a playoff team with Marion in the lineup. He seems to be fitting in extremely well in terms of production.

I mean good god...18 boards and 23 points?? If that's not an FU to the Suns and a housewarming gift for Heat fans, then I don't know what is.

From the recap Notes:

"Marion now has the most rebounds by a Heat player this season -- and by a Heat opponent. He grabbed 24 when Phoenix visited Miami on Nov. 9. Kevin Willis, in 1994, was the only other Miami player to open his Heat career with consecutive double-doubles."

THE ONLY REASON those Nuggets won is cause JR Smith kept draining 3's. he made EIGHT 3 pointers.....

we only lost by 1 in OT. and this is only our 2nd game with marion, both against 2 one of the better Western conference teams.............

THANKS FOR MARION!!!!!!!!! things are lookin good :)

...

Haslem is out, blount is scared of Rebounds.... Who the Hell else is there to Rebound in Miami...

Marion gets all the lose rebounds, and I am sure he is trying EXTRA hard to get rebounds from everyone else....

18 rebounds... its good, but its not something to gawk after...

And shockingly he is back down to shooting 43% in his 2 games with the heat, although I must say this is a little higher than I thought he would shoot...

Marion is Marion.. period...

Huh? He's just doing what he does. Marion wanted out. Period. He's happy about being traded, what did you expect him to do, sulk?

I don't think Heat fans expect him to sulk at all. But if you're specifically asking about my expectations, I'm predicting that Marion has a honeymoon with the Heat where he puts up monster numbers for a couple of weeks, then finally settles down into relative obscurity as the Heat try to quietly end their disastrous season and look to the future.

That's usually what happens when most good players are traded to bad teams, where the season is already forfeit. No big deal, though--with a healthy Haslem and with Marion in their lineup a full season, and with a solid 1st round pick coming off the bench next year, the Heat are going to be a very dangerous 6-8 seed in the East.

Gawk or don't, but not many players collect 18 boards in a game.
Not to mention 32 reb in his first two.

Marion has had some eye popping games in his career. I remember a string of 30/20s at one point.

I expect his numbers in increase in Miami considering they were down (off career avg) so far this season.

Good for Marion. I am rooting for him to do well with his new team.

Oh, I agree with you. I just don't think his current play has anything to do with him wanting to show the Suns they shouldn't have traded him. He certainly wasn't angry to be traded. If anything, we should all be angry with him for nixing the KG deal (assuming he did).
