All I know was that I was glad Phoenix didn't have the first or second pick because I was afraid McD would have gone conventional and picked Fultz or Ball. I don't know if I'd have had the 'huevos' to pick Markannen at 4 but I thought his three point shooting was what we needed most - assuming it carried over. I thought Fox was probably the BPA but I liked Ulis to run our offense so I'd have likekly gone with Josh, though I didn't think he was a really good defender. So far that's been borne out but with good coaching he might turn out quite good yet... he's got the length and athleticism and energy. It may turn out that Ntikilina would have been the smartest pick but I wasn't looking for a PG so I didn't even seriously consider him.

Not totally apples to apples because they fired Romar and hired Mike Hopkins from Syracuse but going back to what I wrote pre draft about how the lack of success UW had as a team with Fultz bothered me. UW is 10-4 this year with wins over Kansas and a USC team that was considered a final 4 contender preseason but seems to be imploding after losing DeAnthony Melton to the FBI scandal.

So UW with the same roster sans replacing Fultz with freshman Jaylen Nowell, has 1 more win this year than they did all last year.

They eventually ran out of gas last night, i think UCLA finished the game on a 26-1 run or something crazy, but they had UCLA down double digits at pauley with 15 minutes left in the game.

They are a MUCH more competitive team this year. the zone helps bunches but basically what Hopkins has done is get them to play harder and play for the team, whereas I felt last year under Romar they didn't play hard and in particular Fultz just seemed to go through the motions, play for his stats, coast on defense(except for blocks) and then pack it in and wait for the draft.

I dont think he shoots well enough to be a 1 and done but Nowell is going to be very good too, he looks a bit like Gary Payton, 6'4", very athletic, tough kid can play the 1.

Yeah there's talk that the shoulder is still not right that he's still not comfortable shooting.

I've been skeptical of him in the past but I really hope the kid gets healthy and gets a chance to play this year. What a strange situation a shoulder injury serious enough to keep him out this long and either the team didn't know, or just intended to play him with the injury until it became obvious he couldn't play with it

It's a shame Philly had him playing with a bad shoulder. They should have let him sit out while he got healthy. You'd think seeing Embiid and Simmon's success would have shown them that you can't rush young players in regards to their health.

If Fultz sticks with that form he'll be playing with the Ball bro's in Lithuania.

Holy cow... they can't be serious with that shot. Why not just let him completely heal so you hopefully get the player you thought you were getting at #1?

I've never watched him. Did he used to shoot "normally" in college?

Yeah he had pretty near textbook form ball up high, high release.

That shot looks a bit like Trae Young now, who has a push, but Young has a higher release point and far less moving parts and he's been shooting this way his whole life.

I would say the rumors are true, Fultz is not healthy yet

Whoever is in charge of Fultz in Philly should be fired on the spot. What in the world are they doing?

First of all, I wasn't a fan of him from a prospect stand point. He doesn't win, he doesn't seem to care, and he's doesn't try on D.

Second, in spite of how I feel about him he's a great offensive player. He could score from anywhere. Very good shooter. (47%/41%) Good form. Very smooth. A stat monster.

That said, he SHOULD NOT be shooting right now. If his shoulder is as injured as they are saying he needs to lay off it and recover. He's only harming himself by either A) continuing to damage that shoulder, or B) destroying his nice shot.

I'm baffled by all this. Truly baffled.

It's a truly bizarre story. It makes no sense, the kid has been working with an NBA trainer since he was 11 or 12 years old, it makes no sense at all that he could have been this injured and his trainer didn't know. And yet we get to the beginning of an NBA season and the first overall pick is playing but can't shoot beyond 6 feet and allegedly had trouble raising his arm to pull his jersey over his head, and yet Philly was denying he was hurt?

Either Philly thought the problem was mental, he'd lost confidence in summer league and preseason and it would get better, or that entire staff is clueless and it's already been pointed out they have had both Embiid and Simmons get hurt and miss a full rookie year so they have experience at this.

I had the same objections I argued about it prior to the draft, he didn't win in college, put up stats but made little impact(UW is so much better this year with a freshman PG replacing him and a new coach), but the kid CAN play at the NBA level.

I suspect the problem is physical but whatever it is, they need to rest him longer and figure out the problem before he comes back, all he's doing is risking further injury and further loss of confidence.

Anyone with a sore or injured shoulder can sympathize. It is painful to lift the ball above shoulder level if such is the case. It is not a normal shooting motion.

There was a rumor he didn't take his hood off when he met with the Celtics pre-draft. Not sure if his agent was trying not to pair him with Isaiah Thomas or he's just a clueless millennial. Either way Ainge and Stevens didn't think he was Boston strong possibly. They trade down, end up with an elite 19 year old scoring wing and have the Laker pick if it falls between 2-6. That would be the best place for Ayton to develop his game.

Man I’m envious of the celtics. Ainge is hitting it outta the park with virtually every move.
