Now that we have Carson "Arnold" Palmer at QB---the magical secret to this upcoming draft is to stock the "clubhouse" with draftees that have golf related names---and the results are very intriguing indeed.

Trade: The Arizona Cardinals trade the #7 pick to the San Diego Chargers for the #11 and #76 picks.

11. Jarvis "Bobby" Jones, OLB, 6-3, 241, Georgia. Most productive edge rusher in the draft. Plays much faster and quicker than his 40 times. Plus, he's from Georgia---not too far of a ride from Magnolia Lane.

38. Robert "Tiger" Woods, WR, 6-1, 185, USC. Woods has incredible short area strength and quickness. Gets consistent separation. Has very good hands.

69. Menelik "Bubba" Watson, T, 6-6, 320, Florida St. This Bubba is massive and surprisingly athletic. A little raw and will need coaching and experience.

76. Matt "Adam" Scott, QB, 6-3, 195, Arizona. Mobile and strong-armed. Needs grooming. Can learn a lot from Palmer and how to drive the ball---and show touch on the short game.

104. Shmarko "Meara" Thomas, SS, 5-10, 206, Syracuse. Aggressive, big-time hitter.

140. Khaled "J.B." Holmes, C, 6-4, 300, USC. One of the most unsung players in this draft. Strong, smart and highly competitive anchor.

174. Devin Taylor "Made", DE, 6-7, 275, South Carolina. Defensive MVP of the East-West Shrine game who wreaked havoc on the edge. Can get after the QB and has the strong hands that Tom Pratt likes.

209. Sheldon "Nick" Price, CB, 6-2, 180, UCLA. One of the very best ST gunners in this draft. Big CB who might be better suited to play FS.

I am not so sure of that, regardless of the invitation. Every year we see the mocked tackles and guards fall---and here's one of the reasons why:

Teams are now in the mode of using the first three rounds to draft starters or at least major contributors.

Menelik Watson isn't a plug in and play tackle right now. He's too raw. You have to coach him up and groom him and then who knows?

I think of Bobbie Massie, who started and played well for 3 years at Ole Miss---and fits the proto-typical mold of an NFL RT and he drops into the 4th round.

The second round of this draft is going to be dominated by WRs, Ss and CBs---players who can make immediate contributions.

The pick is at #69---which is about the time, imo, when Watson makes sense, whether he's languishing away in the green room or not.

The NFL knows what they are doing and has learned from their mistakes of the past with invitations. A player also does not want to be sitting in an empty green room as well. You better believe both the NFL and the Player(who accepted the invite) have a VERY good idea where they might fall.

CBS sports ranks him 26th overall, scouts inc has him 28th. Kiper has Watson going #35 in his last mock. McShay has Watson as an alternate pick at #21, #26, and ultimately going #27.

Him going in the top 40 has a higher likelihood of happening them him being there at #69.

And sometimes having the cameras on a guy can have an impact.

Regardless---he's a guy who might not even dress on game days next year (de-activated)---he has a lot of talent, but he's not NFL ready.

You are drafting potential which is why time and time again early in the draft, potential gets passed over for immediate contributors.

We have officially run out of things to talk about. But I love this draft! We need to trade up and select Thomas Bjoern Werner and then I'll be happy.

I've been toying with making Werner the top Cardinal choice in a few recent mocks, but I happened to read a Kiper piece on Risers and Fallers among this year's draft class. Werner was on Kiper's 10 Guys Who are Falling list. He observed that Werner appeared very stiff and not all that athletic this post-season. Not necessarily the definitive "word" but did give me pause to think.

Don't like the Scott selection there. There would be better options. Tyler Bray is one.
