Actually the best third round pick last year was probably Russell Wilson. Definitely much better than the punter.

Tremendous oversight on my part. You are correct.

So wait we could have had this years Rusell Wilson?!? Keim what did you do?!? :)

I would have much rather us take a chance on Matt Barkley becoming a real good franchise qB for us, than on this kid. There aren't better CBs you can get in round 3 or later than what this kid actually is, but to me a franchise QB is worth so much more to speculate a bit on. Barkley is probably a 75-25 shot to work out good, while I give Mathieu 50-50 at very best.

I actually agree with this 100%. Unfortunately it's obvious now this staff never wanted Barkley in the slightest and he's not a fit for Arians offense. So it's a moot point.

People need to drop the whole "he's an addict" thing. Mathieu isn't an addict. If he was an addict he would be in rehab having withdrawls. It's not so much that he's addicted to smoking; it's him being young and just trying to get away with it. Trying to beat the system. That's how kids are. He's only 20 and as long as he someone to guide him in the right direction then he'll be perfectly fine.

It wasn't a physical addition. It could be termed, however, as a psychological dependency.

Only if you say "drug addict" would I agree.

Totally disagree. He's a kid with many personal demons, and he self-medicated with weed, becoming psychologically addicted to feeling better. He was absolutely addicted, just like you can be to porn, or gambling, or exercise. Dopamine triggers, no matter what they are, can be addicting.

He was not trying to "get away with it" or "beat the system." He has real mental issues that he dealt with by self-medicating with MJ.

However, he's one hell of a football player, and this is the best opportunity for him to thrive. I am pulling like hell for the guy, because not only do I love a redemption story, the Honey Badger is one of the more exciting college football players I've seen in a long time. Tenacious little bastard on the field.

Its 2013. This is a multi multi million dollar organization, which is part of a multi billion dollar conglomerate

Why do the conference calls still sound like they were done using walkie talkies from the Vietnam era.

:biglaugh: Yeah you're right he isn't an addict. Lol

Tell me what him admitting himself into a drug treatment facility means? What does making smoking pot a priority (his words) over what he supposedly loves (football) mean? If he's not an addict, you need to look up the word.

I hope like hell he means EVERY WORD he says about loving football after it was taken away for the Cards sake. I would say based on history, the odds are stacked against him!

If I'm running the Cards, one slip up & he's unemployed...no excuses & ifs ands or buts!!!

Hopefully he uses football to stay out of trouble. Come in early and stay late everyday, attend Fitz's camp in the off season and things along those lines.

This is exactly right. If you want to get into semantics and only call a physical withdrawal type of addiction fine. Call this a psychological addiction a life dominating habit or whatever. But it is real and it is very difficult to escape from. When you use marijuana as a medication to help you cope with life's demons rather than deal with them in a more straightforward healthy way, you are dependent. The pot then becomes a hindrance to really solving problems and adds more.

Self-medicating is a good way to phrase it.

BTW. Dealing with young people with backgrounds similar to Tyrann's (unstable, criminal or chemical dependent parents), it is not uncommon to find young people who have undiagnosed brain chemical issues such as ADD/ADHD, depression, and bipolar disorder. They are sometimes actually using the pot to try to self medicate for something that really is wrong.

He really should get some testing done, just to rule it out if nothing else.

Just because he admitted himself into a drug treatment facility means he's an addict? I can assure you that it was all for show. It's MARIJUANA. Not heroin.

Have any of you actually smoked pot before? With friends on a regular basis?

The fact that he couldn`t control himself enough to manage to play for his college after a season in which he drew national attention for his play tells people he has a problem. What`s he going to do during the long nfl season?

Despite the popular belief by society, you CAN get addicted to weed. Maybe not on a "IF I DON'T SMOKE I MIGHT LOSE MY MIND!" level, but on a level where it becomes part of your daily routine. It's like drinking coffee, you have a few cups every morning, for a few months, then you try to go a day without it, all you can do that morning is think about coffee and how much you want a cup

Wow, I didn't know you couldn't read reports or interpret them.

How does anyone smoking out make a difference to what TM's experience was? Not even comparable.

You can assure us? Wait, you called me out for commenting on his documented personal demons from his upbringing, yet you can ASSURE us that his checking into a facility was all for show?

Well, nice to meet you Mr. Matheiu, because the only way you can assure us of that is if you actually ARE him.

Its not really addicting. I can stop any time I want. I was just hanging out with friends. You don't smoke regularly so you don't know. It helps me cope. It just takes the edge off.

These are the things every addict who walks through my office door says. Meanwhile, they are throwing away everything valuable to them in life for one more high.

You tell them that its going to be either the pot or their marriage and they will desperately argue, lie, and cheat in order to figure out a way to have both. And this is a person that really loves their spouse and WANTS to stay with him/her. In the end they get caught and end up alone.

While there are some who become physically addicted to marijuana, the issue is usually more of an emotional addiction, similar to porn etc. It becomes the means of coping with the difficulties of life. These types of addictions are powerful too, even if it doesn't produce dt's when you quit.

BTW. Just because it is an addiction does not mean its a not choice. Its always a choice and in the end its no one fault but mine.

I think using marijuana is a lifestyle choice and I have not seen it be physically addictive. I think it is more of a self medicating agent than anything and a mental weakness for the user. A person could go to the doctor and get a prescription for a legal drug that would do much of the same thing. Marijuana is just not a smart choice because it is illegal.

It terms of addictive drugs, I fear alcohol the most for those who abuse it. It costs lives.

For some people who are hard core, beer is nothing more than a 'chaser' for harder stuff. Same with marijuana, it just a chaser.

He may well look at marijuana use as... ppffft, you kiddin me? What's the big deal, and may never quit because he doesn't want to. Or, as some folks here have suggested, it could be his only drug of choice and may see the wisdom of leaving it behind.

I can't call him an idiot even though he's put himself in this situation.....some people start, some don't, some quit, some don't.. it's just the way it is.

Doesn't mean you can't try to help them.

25 years clean and sober for me now.
