I freaking love this kid. I can't wait for him to start playing, but I hope the team is extra-careful with his return. We have a ton of tools in the secondary right now. Keeping him fresh for a (possible) playoff push would be ideal.

agreed. I am PRAYING that I have to eat platefuls of crow about his comeback. He was my favorite player last year. just a complete and utter football player. he was born to play this game.

yeah I see no reason to rush him back. If he is ready then fine.

I really feel for the kid. You could see him chomping at the bit and pacing back and forth at practice. This kid just wants to be on the field play football with his teammates.

Only one man's plan matters:

Coach Bruce Arians has taken a more conservative approach, telling reporters all along that he doesn't expect Mathieu to play until Arizona's Week 5 tilt with the Broncos.

"I shared it with him," Mathieu said of his revised timetable. "I don't think he takes me too seriously."

Ditto. I know he wants on the field ASAP but he's very important and versatile and kid gloves are best for the long term.

I'm not ashamed to say he's my favorite player on the team. His heart, passion, instincts and overall knack for the game is a joy to watch and infectious. Season opener when he chased down the TE and knocked the ball out of his hands to prevent the touchdown the MOST impressive thing to me was that the instant he hit the ground after he dislodged the ball he popped up and was going for it to try to recover.

Hardly anyone chases down the guy in the first place and disloges it, but his continued heads up IQ to spring off the ground after dislodging it looking for the recovery spoke volumes to me. Hell, it was an amazing play at the dislodge, and 99.9% of players would have been spent then. Guy has boundless energy and unrealistic football presence/IQ.

If he sees game action before week 3-4 of the reg season it's foolish IMO

If you think about that timeline, Matthieu starts practicing at the close of camp, and can remain on the PUP list for the first five weeks of the season, practice with the team after that point, and can come back within three weeks of his first practice.

If Matthieu comes off the PUP list before the end of camp, he has to be carried on the active roster the remainder of the season. If he goes into the regular season on PUP, he can't play or practice for the first five weeks.

This team's challenge is going to be getting the necessary energy on the filed before he comes back. I am not doubting they will, I just know the minute that the kid hit's the field on his first game back at U of P, it's going to be absolutely bat**** insane inside the stadium. I feel sorry for whoever we play that day. It will make the energy the day of last year's colts game pale in comparison.

I hate how excited I am for this season.

He isn't eligible to play until after week 6 anyway.

If he wants to return to practice (duh!) and the doctors say OK, than let him practice.

Just putting the uppers on, running a few plays, pushing your limit is the best medicine.

Cool.

I just hope he doesn't over do it and is 100% ready to come out. I would rather have him not play 2 or 3 games rather then be out the whole season, or forever. Just don't push it.

Same. And totally agree. I don't watch college ball much and didn't buy into ANY of the hype but when I first saw him hit the field he popped off the screen and continued doing that all year. Even my wife, who's usually reserved about this stuff, would sit forward when he took the field.

You're right about him being a complete and utter football player. He's one of those rare dude's that it all just seems so natural for him.

Cool.

The 6 week requirement is only in place if he is place on the regular season PUP list, so that is not correct. He can come back at any time, unless he starts the seson on PUP, which I don't see happening.

Same here, my favorite player. The ball just seems to find him wherever he goes.

Exactly. Don't want to see this become a huge problem because they didn't want a few more weeks.
