Because QBs are valued.
Letting the Packers, a team who always manage the cap well, eat $10M doesn't hurt them. They're not the Skins or the Raiders when it comes to spending.

If Finley's got a brain he'll want to give the hometown discount and if not, the Pack has proved they can live without him. May as well try to get something for a QB and risk letting Finley walk.

I don't think that's really true. The Patriots only got a 2nd round pick for Matt Cassel. The Cards gave up a worthless CB and a crapshoot draft pick for Kolb. Orton and Leinart were let go for nothing. The Texans got Schaub for two 2nd round crapshoot picks. The Colts may be letting Manning go for nothing to save $28 million when their franchise is worth a thousand million.

Now, that the NFL values QBs could be a myth.

How could the Patriots obtain only a second-round draft choice for a solid, young quarterback and a 12-year veteran leader, linebacker Mike Vrabel?

That mystery persisted Saturday after the Patriots announced the trade for the 34th pick in this year's draft, which the Chiefs earned with a franchise-worst 2-14 record.

I for one believe this deal was based on the relationship between Pioli and the Pats.

As for the Falcons, the trade allows the cap-strapped team to essentially recoup the $2.3 million qualifying offer it made to Schaub and invest that money elsewhere. And the haul the team received in the trade -- a swap of first-round choices in 2007 and second-round picks in the 2007 and 2008 drafts -- provides Atlanta with considerable flexibility.

Now this trade is closer to our scenario of trading for Kolb.

I'm usually am pretty good at detecting the Duck jinx or sarcasm posts but I'm not sure with this one.

SuperSpk is correct that the NFL places a far higher premium on QB's and their value is much higher than any other position in the NFL.
