Another good Keim deal. MT @MikeGarafolo: Breakdown of LB Shaughnessy's Cards deal: 2 yrs years, $4.4m with another $2.2m in incentives.

About what I thought! Good job Stevo

Unreal RT @BairCSN: #Raiders announce that Rodger Saffold failed a physical and will not be signing with the team.

HILARIOUS!!!! The Raiders let Veldheer get away, then WAYYYY overpay for Saffold, only to have him fail his physical. LMFAO!!!

If I am not mistaken-- aren't 10 of the final starting 11 back on defense?

Only exemption is that guy who played MLB next to DWash.. Carlo Dansberry, or something like that.

:p

This is a good signing because we were 2nd I believe against the rush. Good to have almost the same group back. He'll see plenty of work, imo. Both at DE and SOLB on 1st and 2nd downs and 3rd and short.

Isn't Yeremiah Bell still a free agent? Still that would be 9 of 11 and as long as 5 of them are Dockett, Big Dan, Calais, DWash and Peterson the D will be solid.

I think Ta'Amu and Shaughnessy were really the keys to how much better our front 7 held up against the run. If they weren't penetrating, they sure weren't getting shoved around either.

This is a good move, and a good day. I love someone agreed to our terms while on a visit to New England.

Didn't think he did much. BASK must think otherwise, so it's fine. I trust them.

I just don't get it. Call me when he does something.

He's graded out as one of the better run defenders in the NFL for the last several years. In this division that loves to run the ball, this is a huge signing.

I figured the Cards could keep him if they wanted to. He wasn't going to be expensive. He's a role player and you know what you're getting with him. I was on the, I don't care if he stays or goes, train of thought. Good that he stayed, replaceable if he left.

Good 'under-the-radar' signing by the Cardinals.

This guy is an excellent run defender who holds the point. I'm sure it didn't hurt that it was raining all day in New England. People who don't think this is a good value signing must not be paying attention.

Yeremiah Bell
Karlos Dansby

Are the only two that are not on the roster at this moment.

Good move to re-sign him. Now we will see if Acho can beat him out for a starting spot in a contract year.

That is the question isn't it.

What to do with Sam Acho.

I think if Lorenzo Alexander can get healthy that he is moving to ILB, just a hunch.

I would guess that if they don't sign a FA ILB and draft another rookie ILB (prob. later in draft) that Alexander would get the initial nod along side Minter if DW is suspended for a length of games. Acho and Okafor are mtl better suited for the outside. Maybe/possibly Acho could compete there as well if we draft one of the young OLB's early??

Good point. But I Watched some of last years Lions game and Alexander was starting at LOLB with Abraham on the right.

I think was pretty invisible alexander
About okefor he should put some weight and switch to 3-4 DE,he uses great hands but he lack quickness so i dont see him playing OLB.
Acho either,i will try him as ILB
With bernard back and giving depth we really need a young stud pass. rusher-Dee Ford or anthony Barr
My wish draft
1Dee Ford. Olb auburn
2 Buchanon Safety washington state
3 Stanley Jean-Baptista cb nebraska
4 Rober Herron wr wyoming
5-James Hurst ot north carolina
6- pierre desir cb

Don't see nay reason why he couldn't. He beat him out last year didn't he? That would hardly be any big shock.

Yes, but Shaughnessy played at a higher snap % per game than Acho did which makes me wonder if Acho will be able to do all of the things Shaughnessy did on defense. I would actually be shocked if Acho did because I have never seen Acho plays as physically as Shaughnessy did last year. We will see.

What Shaughnessy's signing shows is that Steve Keim is willing to budge from his value chart---he had been trying to sign Shaughnessy for a week now---but clearly once Shaughnessy was garnering interest from the Patriots, Keim upped the ante in order to get this deal done.

I think Shaughnessy and Benard were linked---because if Keim signed Mike Neal instead, Keim probably would have felt that Neal could be an all three down player in the defense and therefore signing Benard wouldn't have been nearly as important.

If Lorenzo Alexander is the starter at ILB to begin the season, we can pretty much stick a fork in the non-special-teams career of Kevin Minter.

I agree.

We do have some hope though

“We drafted him for a reason,” Arians said. “We love him. He should assume that role.”

But of course Arians has his door #2

Arians said the Cardinals will still look for linebackers in free agency and may give Lorenzo Alexander a shot at earning the job. Alexander, who was signed as an outside linebacker, has also played inside, Arians said.

So if we don't sign/draft someone else, if Minter doesn't win it, Alexander probably would.

If Minter can't win that job and lick it down from a guy like Alexander he's got major issues.
