The first wave of free agency is in the books, which means there are veterans remaining that can be had for value as teams continue to fill out their roster.
As far as the Lions go, that means value can still be had at the defensive end position and one name in particular was mentioned by Jarrett Bailey of Touchdown Wire as a potential fit in Detroit. Bailey says the Lions are a good match for former Falcons and Patriots defensive end Matt Judon.
"Matt Judon is past the point of his career where he can be a No. 1 edge rusher for a contending team, but he would be a very good No. 2," wrote Bailey. "The Lions likely would have loved to trade for Myles Garrett, who spent a month pretending to care about winning before signing a record-breaking extension with notorious winners, the Cleveland Browns. So, still in need of a No. 2 opposite Aidan Hutchinson, Judon would be a great addition. He only had 5.5 sacks last season with the Atlanta Falcons, but in a Robin rather than Batman role, he could see that number go up and make the Lions' pass rush more dangerous."
The Falcons gave up a third-round pick for Judon, which looks rough in hindsight. But the Falcons as a whole still couldn't get to the quarterback and that put even more pressure on Judon. In Detroit, he would have more one-on-one opportunities as opposing offenses still have to deal with Aidan Hutchinson on the other side, freeing up Judon.
Judon wouldn't have to be a superstar in Detroit but he would very much be a strong fit on a team still looking for depth at the defensive end position.
