The Steelers are having Stefan Wisniewski in for a visit, which means they might be contemplating severing ties with Pouncey. If they do, and Keim can sign him up, what a major coup that would be. Yes, he is a major injury risk, but as we don't really have a starting C, it's a risk I'd be willing to take.

Realize this is 100 percent speculation based upon a report I just heard here in Pittsburgh. The only fact here is that it's being reported that Pittsburgh's having Wisniewski in for a visit.

If the Steelers are letting him go for a interest in Wis... well I do not know about signing him and the Steelers are not really known for their great OL, considering their QBs being under pressure is any indication :)

Pouncey, before he got injured, was considered one of the best, if not the best center in the NFL. He is absolutely worth a look.

If he currently does not have huge salary with the Steelers and the reason why Wis is more attractive to them... then I would not touch him

Nothing wrong with having a look , and have your medical staff have an even closer look .
I agree with JG's reasoning that buyer beware applies here . Pouncey has been a probowl player , is not old , doesn't have a huge salary , and if the team is willing to move away "WHY" ???

I think the Steelers are one of the better teams at managing personnel. If they were getting rid of him I would be highly suspicious. Whether it were injury or a off the field concern ( guy was borderline and ran with Aaron Hernandez) I would walk slowly around that one.

That is why I would be cautious concerning him. The Steelers are not the Patriots who like to move on from a player when the player still has some value

Cards only about $3.5 million under the cap and need most of that to sign their draft picks.
Bottom line is that there is little money for free agents unless some contracts are restructured.

My guess is the Steelers are bringing him in as insurance for Pouncy to come back from his injury. Wis. is way over valued by most on this board.

If they do cut Pouncy it's because he is damaged goods.

At the beginning of the new year (a couple of weeks a go), the Steelers had to give Pouncey a $3.5 roster bonus---thus, at first glance, it would appear that the Steelers are sticking with him. Bringing in Wisniewski is indeed potential insurance in case Pouncey continues to be sidelined, as he has been for most of the past two years. But---Wisniewski is not going to be the cheapest insurance option, which could mean the Steelers are getting ready to move on from the oft-sidelined Pouncey.

However, at a second glance, the least money the Steelers would have to lose occurs if they release him after June 1st. They would eat $7M in dead cap money, but would save $3.5M versus the cap---which would mean a loss of $3.5M. Had they released him before June 1st, they would have had to eat over $15M of dead cap space.

Trading for him is really not an option either because the Steelers would lose $10M in dead cap money. It is far less expensive for them to release him after June 1.

Pouncey is scheduled to make a little over $7M this year the next 3 years. If healthy, that's a pretty good deal.

However they designate the release for CAP purposes, Pouncey will be free to find a new home prior to June 1.

I'd have to see the medical on the guy....right now I'd say no..but I'm not a dr and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

He's too often off the field for my liking to pen (not pencil) in as our starter at C.

Add to it he's gonna want a contract on based on his past performance...not where he's at today...and I see him as...he WAS good, but the NFL is what are you gonna do for me today...

I hope we can get him, if healthy for at least one season, that would be the difference on our O-line.

But let's see how it develops.

offer him a contract structured like that one guy did for himself in Denver...it is all about prove it. But it pays off well if he does.
