The Mavericks play at the Suns tonight with an Arizona start time of 7 PM. The Mavericks blew a 19 point second quarter lead against Toronto last night losing to them at home in overtime so both teams will be playing on the second night of back-to-backs. This will be another good game to further evaluate how the Suns stack up in the Western Conference.

See Paul Coro article at azcentral dated 12-21-13 for more. See link below.

Mavericks (15-11) at Suns (15-10) … 7 p.m. Phoenix tip time

C: Miles Plumlee … DeJuan Blair

PF: Channing Frye … Dirk Nowitzki

SF: P.J. Tucker … Shawn Marion

SG/PG: Goran Dragic … Monta Ellis

PG: Eric Bledsoe … Jose Calderon

Key Mavericks injuries: Devin Harris (foot surgery) is out.

Key Mavericks reserves: Vince Carter, Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Shane Larkin, Samuel Dalembert.

With our starters (except for the Dragon) pretty well rested last night; and our bench in a groove; and playing at home in the 2nd of a B2B, I expect us to do well tonight vs. the Mavs. I also expect Bledsoe to rise to the occasion and give Dragon a little time to rest.

despite the inconsistency... Green has been a good pick up for us

Totally agree. He is the type player, when on, can win you some games. Every team needs a shooter. He sort of reminds me of Eddie Johnson when he was playing. It's up to the coach to know when to play him... when he is hot.

I guess so. Eddie was so good at one time, but he also seemed to shoot us out of games too. I remember being relieved when he left, because I knew Horny was going to get those minutes and I had so much more confidence in Jeff.

This is why Green reminds me of Eddie. Eddie was a streak shooter. The coach needs to know when to play him and when to sit him.

Meanwhile, the Suns had their highest scoring game of the year on the 2nd night of a back-to-back.

Again, I commend Horny on his minutes management in the two games.

Tonight, Bledsoe played 37 minutes and seven other Suns (including Dragic) played between 21-32 minutes.

Last night it was Dragic playing 40 with seven other Suns (including Bledsoe) between 21-29 minutes.

One of the many things I like about Hornacek is his ability to call timeouts at the right time. Even in our losses, he's called timeouts at the right time even though the team may failed to execute after the TO.

Not calling timeouts and calling em at the wrong times have long been a big pet peeve of mine.

Eddie was a below average athlete. Shooting was his only thing.

We've had some good players in the "gunslinger role" over the years. Eddie Johnson, Wesley Person, Eddie House. I think Green would fit into that role quite nicely and he adds the dimension of being able to run out and dunk on the break.

Green has his shortcomings but he's long, quick, athletic and he's a willing defender. I'm not sure he's ever focused on it before playing for Hornacek but he's making an effort now and he has the tools to excel at it.

Before I seen Green play for the Suns, I was thinking he might play something in the order of Shannon Brown. As I see Green now, he wants to learn both offensively and defensively to be a better player. This is the key as you point out, because he has all the tools in the world. Some players never put in the effort improve their game especially in context of being a team player. Also his shooting is welcome.
