Mavericks @ Suns Friday game thread 12-27-2024

What frustrates me is this didn't have to happen. The Suns had the pieces in place for a bright future.

The Suns GM and ownership just had to have the sparkling star on the top of the tree.

I'm trying to not look backward.

I see no easy way to turn us around. I don't believe there is even a remote possibility of turning this roster into a true contender. So to me, our choices appear to be, mediocrity for a few years and then horrible for a very long time or horrible for a few years and then a gradual return to normalcy (middle of the road roster and a full allotment of future picks). Neither version will be pretty but obviously I would prefer we not throw away more assets trying to fix our unfixable team.

I really liked those pre-Durant teams with Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson going forward.

As I have mentioned, I haven't felt the same about the Suns since that trade.

I do like watching young players develop, but it's a shame the Suns threw it all away if it comes to that.

I'm only seeing this now. It's funny hearing EJ's commentary. I watched the Dallas Stars game tonight and the mavs and suns showed more fight in that clip compared to the hockey game I watched.

yeah the mavs/suns game wasn't an option for me to watch otherwise I probably would have. it's not the same without booker and doncic. but still always seems to be competitive when they play. we've definitely seen a lot worse, like the Danny Fortson's dirty push that prompted Colangelo to call forston a thug. I guess I don't blame him for that considering Fortson broke that guy's wrist. Of corse in those days dallas were so soft that they felt that they needed to sign any guy who could bench more than 225 and put him at center to keep Shawn Bradley out of the game. Apparently don nelson wouldn't let Dirk go into the weight room either.

Yeah, it's a shame the incident couldn't be undone because I think it impacted Zarko's career in an adverse way.

However, we do appreciate Mark Cuban for not being willing to pay Steve Nash.

Like a petulant child, you got KD, the star that was supposed to lead us to the promise land and we're stranded in no man's land. Because we are now a constant reminder of how awful the KD trade was doesn't mean throwing him aside makes it better. It actually makes it worse since we don't control our own picks! There is zero reason to tank other than so you aren't constantly reminded of your last idea to build contender turned out. If you were a GM, you had have been fired. You're not, which is fine, you can choose to follow the Suns how you'd like but trying to mock others for their view is ridiculously uncalled for.

Conceivably, if the Suns improve their roster, they can be an above .500 team.

I guess it's which team do you watch, a mediocre Suns team or a terrible one?

Considering where we are now, I suspect just about everyone would prefer that route. But given that we came up short even in a league wide injury plagued year with CP3 playing like an All NBA player, DA showing signs of being an All Star center, Crowder bringing timely shooting and a lot of toughness to the court - it's clear we had a lot of work to do to become a championship contender. And even more work to do once it was clear we had to replace those three impact players.

For me, all I can envision is this product getting progressively worse and the front office routinely selling picks and players like Dunn to try and make a mediocre team slightly better all the while using up the last little bit of value our veterans have.

I'm ready to just start the energy guys and play them most of the minutes. Punish Beal by making him come off the bench. He can pout for all I care as he's getting paid way too much for what he's putting on the court. Like Steve said, I'd rather watch guys that are at least giving full effort even if they lose most nights. Play the rookies 35 minutes a night.
