Joeshmo, I did read your whole post and I'm very familiar with how the cap works. Did you forget that only the top 51 salaries count toward the cap? Also what makes you think we will be cutting Hodgins and Darling instead of some of the lower echelon guys? Relying on cuts to get you under the cap when the majority of players you have over the roster limit are minimum salaried guys won't get it in this instance. And as I said in my last post, the Cardinals won't go into a season with only a minimal amount of cap space left. I'm sure Bill Bidwill will see to that.

I fully no how the cap works I have been studying it excessively probably to a fault since starting College 10 years ago, I spend to much time on it and studying it and its trends. I guess you can call it my one thing that I obsess about. Some obsess about stats, some obsess about other things. In fact I did my Masters thesis paper on it 2 years ago. Not trying to toot my own horn just showing how much of a Geek I am about the cap as a whole. I am also full well of the top 51, and was taken into effect into my calulations.

I know that we wont go into the season with minimal cap space, no team does that, and isnt the issue. In fact the average team over the last 5 years go into the season with about 1,050,000 of cap space left. The issue is that we can still sign a big FA and cut loose excess baggage like a Darling or Hodgins. And no they are not the only ones, I am just throw their names out there. There are plenty of others that would make it work.

I would bet that at least two of these if not more would be cut. And these are the smaller contracts. And all are in the top 51.

Woods would save us 540,000.
Fisher would save about 400,000.
Gilmore would save about 500,000.
Anderson would save 455,000.
Tate would save 535,000.
Rhinehart would save 535,000.
Raill Johnson would save 455,000.

There are about 10 more I can mention, But you get my point.

Plus, Skorp keeps on saying it as well as other sources that at least one if not a few big contracts will be cut this year. But we dont even need a big contract cut to make it work, so it isnt really needed.

If we didnt see a opportunity out there to better our team from a big FA we could use the extra cap space I already laid out and just give it to Boldin in the form of a roster bonus and lower his signing bonus so we can have more cap space throughout the life of his contract.

Either way the simple fact is we still have plenty of wiggle room to work with if Green sees an opportunity out there.
