We'd like to introduce you to a player from each team in the division who is expected to exceed expectations in 2004. Additionally, each division has its own "wild card" -- a player or coach who might make the difference between the postseason or the offseason. Check them out, put them on your own watchlist, and see if they contribute in a big way in the upcoming season.
Josh McCown, QB, Arizona
Josh McCown
Unless you're either a diehard Cardinals fan or a devout follower of Sam Houston State athletics, you probably don't know much about McCown, other than he's the quarterback that threw the fateful touchdown pass that knocked the Vikings out of the playoff race in the season finale last year. But new Cardinals head coach Dennis Green knows plenty about McCown -- Green knows he has a surprisingly good arm and excellent mobility. Most of all, Green knows that McCown is capable of connecting with big-bodied, sure-handed wide receivers Anquan Boldin and rookie Larry Fitzgerald. Most of all, Green knows that McCown is only 25, the youngest of his newfound trio. That means if he can instill success early, McCown could go on to have a prolific passing career. It all starts this season as Green has granted McCown the starting spot in the desert.
FYI: When he was with the Vikings, Green went to the playoffs seven times in nine seasons. The quarterbacks he had on those teams include Rich Gannon, Jim McMahon, Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham and Daunte Culpepper.
RIVALRY FUEL: The Cardinals are 2-10 in NFC West play since the division realigned in 2002.
