Probably a McDonough connection. Good hire though.

I agree. It sounds like a good hire. Maybe the Doc Rivers situation has been resolved one way or the other that would cause Mike Longabardi to leave the Celtics. I still want to hear from a local source like Paul Coro.

Looks like Roy Rogers is joining Kidd's staff in Brooklyn which explains why things fell through in Phoenix.

It looks like Doc Rivers will go to the Clippers. I wonder if this effects the Suns possible hire of Mike Longabardi as an assistant coach.

I have not seen any comments from Paul Coro about the situation.

Suns already hired Longabardi.

But even if they hadn't, how would this affect it in anyway? Are you thinking that Longabardi would have maybe wanted to go to Clippers to coach with Rivers.

Until Paul Coro reports it, I'm not counting the chickens. Longabardi might want to follow Rivers to the Clippers.

Coro's usually super late on everything. Sometimes he doesn't even report certain stuff because its not that important or because everyone already knows about it from others.

Paul Coro is the Suns team reporter at azcentral. His job is to get it right before he reports it. I find him to be a very useful source of information especially on twitter where he is more cutting edge. Everything on twitter does not make it to azcentral.

I am really liking Hornacek as a coach. He is quietly putting together an excellent staff. When he talks, he is humble and straightforward. He is not full of platitudes about changing the culture etc.

If you can't hire the best, hire someone who can be the best. I am sure hoping that Jeff is in the second category there. I would love to have a coach that can be around for 18 years like Pop has been in San Antonio.

I'm liking McDonaugh just as much as Hornacek - one reason being that he hired Horny. I have never felt as upbeat about the Suns as I do now - in spite of the sorry roster. Its such a novel sensation to feel like the team is in capable hands.

You know it might be the death of this board - what are we going to talk about when they're not piling one blunder on top of another? I guess we still have Sarver, who will probably not be able to resist the urge to meddle now and then.

More good news about the Suns staff per a tweet by Paul Coro. For me, signing these two to new deals cannot be minimized.

Paul Coro ‏@paulcoro 3h

#Suns announced head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson's promotion to VP of athlete care. Nelson & strength coach Mike Elliott signed new deals.

Interesting that Gentry followed Doc to LAC instead of reuniting with D'Antoni with the Lakers. Maybe Gentry still has some loyalty to the Suns lol.

And maybe he's just smart. I'd worry about the locker room for either team but the Clippers have a bright future, the Lakers have a shining past. Also, Gentry has ties to the Clippers.

Alvin Gentry will be the associate head coach with the Clippers and Doc Rivers. He will run the offense. I don't know if this translates into more dollars but I think it gives Gentry the respect he deserves.

He's also the heir apparent when Rivers is fired. I say "when," because almost no coach lasts as long as his contract anymore, although I realize that Rivers himself was an exception in Boston.
