Charean Williams, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Tennessee Titans linebackers coach Dave McGinnis would like to get another shot at head coaching. "Even though I got fired there at Arizona, the thing that makes me feel good is they were left with the best salary-cap situation in the league. We suffered three years clearing the salary cap. We helped get them a new stadium, which was huge. I'm very proud of some of the players I brought in as young players -- [Arizona Cardinals SS] Adrian Wilson, [DL] Leonard Davis, [WR] Anquan Boldin. We gained some respect there league-wide with what we had to go in and clean up cap-wise." He added that he would consider a head coaching job in the college ranks.

Well I've give him a little credit. But along with the 4 superstars mentioned there were another two to three dozen of his mediocre players Green cut and had to clear.

He did make a wonderful effort to get our stadium ballot passed though.

I don't begrudge any of what Mac said...he's a class guy all the way...and I wish him another chance...in the right situation surrounded by good coordinators, Mac might fare a lot better the second time around.

Mac is a great guy and would probably be fun to play for. He has to learn from his mistakes though and being too loyal to his starters was a major flaw in his thinking IMHO. Like Leinart said earlier this week "nothing is given to you".

Keeping coaches like Joe Green and Marmie always seemed to me to be a big problem.

As for "Clearing out the Cap" I don't remember the Cards having salary cap issues then. (2000-2003) Was it a result of Plummer,Wadsworth and Swann deals?

Like Pete Carrol, Mac is better suited for the college game. Good point with the recruiting, he's a really likable guy.

I wouldn't say that nothing he did was successful in AZ. We did make it to the playoffs in '98 and actually won a game. He was the DC and he gets some of the credit for that.

Coach Mac is a cool dude, but he is a better motivational speaker, then a X and O guy. I thank for all the work he did to get the vote passed for the new stadium though!!

Some but not much. Even that year the defense was ranked 25th in points and 21st in yards allowed.

I thought this as well. In fact i wanted him to take over at Arizona once Mackovic and him got fired at the same time. I think Gambo initially brought that idea up....

My son's flag football team is looking for a coach...

I don't get the ragging on Mac. He was handcuffed by ownership and a poor scouting department. His record in his first two years was as good as Greens. Not a great coach, but he could get the most out of what he had.

He did for a time. After that 4-2 start that one season and we got smoked in that game for first place by the Niners the players pretty much laid down on him after that. We finished that year 1-9 in the last ten games and never came close to being competitive on the road again.

I agree with college being the best place for him to head coach.

He was bad at talent evaluation. Really bad. Of the 3 playes listed in the article, AW and Boldin are here as a result of then regional scout Steve Kiem. He was also way too loyal to his assistant coaches and to the players named as starters. Remember, Q only got his chance because of injuries. If not for our starters all getting hurt Boldin would have started off his rookie year backing up such studs as Gilmore and McAddley.

In college where players leave after 3-4 years that won't be such an issue for Mac. I also think his rah rah personality type would resonate better with college kids than paid proffessionals.
