Mac should have taken the Chicago job. He was handcuffed here and nothing more than a lame duck. Not a great X and O guy I agree, but I will go out on a limb and say that with the talent we had the past two years, he would have a better record. His players liked him and wanted to battle for him. I don't see that with Green.

That being said, his HC ship has sailed and the college ranks are his calling.

So he's proud that we sucked badly enough that we couldn't attract free agents and use cap space??? Give the man another franchise.

Shouldn't a head coach be a good X and O guy? His players quit on most every game. I saw it every time they were down by more than 10, hence the blowouts.

Not true on the attracting FA's. He got Kendall, Starks, and Freddie Jones. At the time of the signings they looked pretty good. Didn't turn out that way but he did get 'em to sign.

Some but not much. Even that year the defense was ranked 25th in points and 21st in yards allowed.

Well you make a good point as far as statistics go Duckjake. However as someone else in this thread already stated his men played for him when he was DC. That 7-9 team had there moments too. I think he would very likely do good in the college ranks also.

I was saying he would make a good college coach when he was still coaching the Cardinals because he could win simply by out recruiting other schools. And I'd bet he could convince Bob Stoops son to go to Texas.:D

He had a reputation of guys playing for him but he could do nothing to rally the players in 2000 when he took over for Tobin and his guys went 1-8 and were outscored 233-89.

He did get them going a little after the 2nd week in 2001 but management of the franchise during that time was so pathetic he never had a chance.

Yeah too bad it worked out that way for him. There were times I had a faint hope that he might actually get us to at least an 8-8 season. Right now 8-8 looks pretty good. I want more but wouldn't be upset if we pulled that off this year.

I ***LOVE*** the idea of Mac being a head coach again.

Hey McGinnis.... these three teams should be at the top of your list to coach for:

San Francisco
St. Louis
Seattle

;)

Not saying he didn't use some of it, but to claim that having a lot of cap room is some moral victory implies that you couldn't find ways to use the resources, which tells me we could have signed MORE than Jones, Starks, etc.

I'd say #2 behind Bob Hollway (8-18-2). That guy was awful. Coryell took over and won a division title just two years later.

Hey this would make a good thread.

No, that would be Buddy Ryan

naw, ryan at least had an 8-8 season. second best record since the team's been in the valley. that and his teams were at least interesting. yes, i the end interestingly disastrous, but before that he had people on the edge of their seats when the d was on the field.

mac heralded a bad AND boring team.

And he was even more exciting as a GM. Pulling in all those Tennessee St. players and cutting checks so his assistants could get penile implants. On the field, we could get a sack or give up a 70 yd TD pass as he insisted on James "Toast" Williams playing man-to-man with no help. Yes, Buddy was never boring. But, insanity is never dull.

No, Ryan at least had some success with the defense. McGinnis teams were flat out awful. ST, Offense, Defense. Just awful.

McGinnis would be an absolutely AMAZING Div. 1 college coach, I can see him being as successful as Pete Carroll...I really think the college game is his calling because of his personality, care, and being a "players" coach.

I actually think that Texas A&M would be a better situation for him. Texas guy.....tons of local talent, even after Mack Brown cherry picks the top 20 players in the state. Francione has this year and maybe next to turn that program around and he'll be gone, I wouldn't be surprised to see him jump ship this year if things go south. I think he would really turn that program around.

The points allowed was highly misleading though thanks to captain turnover. We were 3rd in the NFL in turnovers forced but still barely had a positive takeaway number because our QB alternated fumbles and INT's that year. He had a lot of exciting plays late in games but there were so many points scored against us that year as a direct result of Plummer it really made the points allowed misleading. I think Jake personaly accounted for 5 defensive TD's that year alone.

It didn't help that they were outscored 71-24 in the first two games either.

The one great thing is that they had given up 73 points to Dallas during the regular season and then held them to only 7 in the playoffs.
