Jay Glazer, NFL beat writer, stated last night on the Arizona Sports Report that he spoke with McGinnis this week and he told Glazer the gig is up in Arizona. He has resolved himself to the fact this will be his last season. Glazer stated changes are forthcoming.

That must really stink. "Yup, I'm getting fired here soon....." Can't imagine how that must feel. Heck of a guy, but, unfortunately, not much of a HC. :(

What I don't like is that he's talking like this and the season isn't over. We technically could still finish 8-8. He's fought so hard for the past few years, it's a shame to see him suddenly resign so fast.

I don't think you'll see any let-up in Coach Mac's demeanor. He's not built that way. I think we're gonna see an all out war on Sunday when the Rams come in here. Hopefully, this team has something to prove and they will try to prove it on the football field.

If the gig really is up for McGinnis, what do the Cardinals have to gain from retaining his services.

It appears the team has already quit. I can't help but think the pathetic performance displayed against Cleveland was a result of the team knowing McGinnis won't be around next season.

I can't say I will be sorry to see McGinnis go. I didn't want him to begin with because if was just a continuation of the Tobin era.

I don't know who I want to see coaching the Cardinals next season. Fassel? Maybe. But he was part of the Tobin era for (1) season also. Of course our offense had a terrific year the season he was our Offensive Coordinator and I hated the GIANTS for taking him from us.

Perhaps Fassel and Eli Manning next season. I think that combination could bring some hope for this franchise. Something to build on before the opening of the new stadium.

Mac should just show up drunk this weekend if he's all ready to pack his bags and bail. He should just get wasted on the side lines, start a fight with Mean Joe, and then leave a big ol' steamer on the 50 yard line. That would be worth the price of admission.:stupid:

See, that's the problem. He HASN'T fought that hard the last few years. He's TALKED a good game, but that's about it. If he were coaching his azz off, scheming like mad and trying desperately to win, I'd agree, but he hasn't been doing this. He's been scheming to NOT lose, and guess what happens when you do that? We've lacked aggression and any kind of coherent game plan. That ain't fightin' in my opinion.

If Mac has given up he should not be coaching this Sunday. I don't believe he will give up till he goes home at seasons end. I wish all our position coaches had his want to win.

I don't think McGinnis has given up, but he knows it would take a very strong finish for him to have any chance of being retained. I think the worst part is the blowout losses. In the NFL the key is to play close games and to win enough to make the playoffs.

Look as much as I liked McGinnis it is time for him to go.

But you people need to wipe the kool aid from your eyes and start looking at reality too. If another coach came in here with this talent level do you honestly think the results would be that much better?

More competitive? Perhaps! Win more games? I highly doubt it.

McGinnis is a convient scape goat right now, and again I agree he needs to go (and take that piece-of-crap Sullivan with him) but thinking that Green, Coughlin, or any other person you people have been throwing around would suddenly turn this team into an instant playoff contender is dillusional!

Coaches usually are but sometimes a coaching change can make a difference. Washington actually got worse with Spurrier. Dallas got better with Parcells. Seem like everywhere Parcells goes he ends up a contender. I do not think it is luck. Dusty Baker comes to the Cubs and they come from last to first in one year. He had to have something to do with it.

As much as I agree with you. I think the two cases you site are abnormal

Spurrier made a rash of wrong desicions on personel (Davis, Ramsey etc) and took a decent team with talent and killed them

Parcells is a great coach. No one can really dispute that. However it is foolish to believe this Dallas team was less talented than the Cards. The Dallas D was good last year and is better this year. They have a good core of players on that team and arguably the 2nd-3rd best WR 's in the league.

I am not saying this tema doesnt need a coaching change but to expect a turnaround, based solely on a coaching change that Dallas experienced, is not reality!

Both of those teams have more talent!

I think John's point was that the coach can make a significant difference, positive or negative.

At this point I would be totally happy with just being competitive, and not completely embarassed every single week.

This team is more talented than our current record. I don't kbow if we'd playoff contenders, but a new coach should definetly be able to get more out of this team the the current staff.

I actually think yes a better coach would win more games wiht the same talent. I think Parcells is proving that in Dallas, I don't think Mac is as bad as Campo was and our next coach won't be Parcells, but I do think a better coach will help.

The thing I see that convinces me Mac is not a good coach is all the blowouts. Good coaches lose to more talented teams too, but they don't lose 49-0 and 44-6 as often as Mac does. It happens now and then to everyone(walsh lost a playoff game 49-3, JJ lost even worse than that) but in general good coaches find a way to keep their team competitive even against better teams. mac does not do this.

I do agree instant playoff contender likely not, you change an entire staff on a young team there's going to be a learning curve.

A HUGE learning curve. At least one year in length since it will likely be an entire new offensive scheme and an entire new defensive scheme being put in at the same time. Plus there may be a pruging of certain players here...the fact that Graves is GM may limit the amount of players purged out but there will be some.

That doesn't mean MAc should keep his job, just this team will be set back again as it learns about the new staff and schemes...and if Graves picks the wrong guy to lead the Cards it could effect the next decade.

This is Graves' biggest decision and will be his biggest legacy with teh Cards.

Depends, Dallas did it this year and the learning curve hasn't stopped them. But in general I do agree.

Mac had discipline issues too I just can't get past things like catching Boston in his room with a girl and letting Boston tell him if she goes I won't play tomorrow.

Other coaches suspend guys for far less. I just read that Mike Shanahan was so frustrated with Darryl Gardener he made a lowlight videotape of 10-15 plays where Gardener just quit and stood around instead of hustling, put them all together and showed them in a team meeting with the whole defense not just Gardener! The idea was to confront him and hope that convinced him to straighten up, didn't work, so he suspended him. I'm not a Gruden fan but I completely agree with his decision to deactivate Keyshawn.

Players have to believe there are consequences for doing things wrong, I don't think they do with Mac. I think a new coach can get them to fear that stuff and it will pay off down the line.

I don't think that anyone is saying that we think that a new coaching staff is going to turn this team into a playoff contender. None of us are that silly (at least, not until the start of next preseason).

I do think that many here, including myself, belive that a new coaching staff would be able to direct wins by margins of greater than three points, and be able to limit losses to margins of less than fifteen points. I think that getting that together, creating a competitive team, is all that it would take to make most Cardinal fans happy in Year One of the new regime.

Look at what's going on in Jacksonville. They have a worse record than us (2-8), but they're not getting thier doors blown on them every week, either. Same thing with the Panthers. Last season, they were still picking in the Top 10 or 12, but they were losing games by four points, ten points, in the final quarters. They got rolled twice by Atlanta, but they were competitive most of the time, and they gained experience. Now, they're almost running away with their division.

That turnaround is possible here. I don't think that this team is as bad, talent-wise, as some people do. I agree with Rod Graves that with a professional coaching staff, this team was an 8-8, 7-9 team, but one that only lost two or three games by two TDs or more. They were also capable of winning a game or two before the expiration of the third quarter. Instead, we're getting our doors blown out on us every week on the road, barely scraping out lucky wins at home by field goals, and no one except Dex Jackson was talking about winning a Super Bowl in Week One, when everyone has a shot at getting to the Big Game.

Playoff contender in 2004? Probably not. Competitive team that's still alive in December? Definately possible.

I agree 100% (with 1 caveat)

I am addressing more the crowd who think New Coach=Playoffs. It just isnt gonna happen. McGinnis is not the coach this team needs and it is obvious he has lost this team. They say they like him b/c , well, yes he is very likeable. Would they put it all on the line for him? Probably not!

But I think this team, with its current talent still is not in contention, as you say, in December. I still think , at best, it is a 6 win team. Yes maybe more competitive and yes maybe only a few players away from being a good team, but 8-8, 9-7, wildcard team? No.

Coach all you want, but Gilmore is still Gilmore and a starting WR. Renaldo Hill is still starting, and Fred Wakefield is still a "valubale position player on this team" Coaching wont make these guys Pro Bowlers! There is a definate lack of talent here.

Russ, I agree on Parcells, but the Dallas team of this year are still the same team of last. Meaning they were talented last year on defense and the jump for them is not that great. I think the real difference this year is Quincy Carter. He was a world beater the first half of the season. As you can see lately he has fallen off quite a bit and Dallas has started to resort back to the underachieving team of last year.
