1 QB, and 1 OG in the first round.

I can't help it, after last season I would love to see Geno rather than anyone on our current roster.

I think Bleacher Report puts out better mock drafts than McShay does. :biglaugh:

Werner falling all the way out of the lottery? Moore falling out of the first round altogether?

All right, Todd.

Yeah.... That was terrible. Jarvis Jones & Warmack going 17 & 18 yet Lotuleili goes #1 with his issue? Cooper before Warmack? Wow.

If it went this way though, we would have a ton of tradeback options.

I think it was Merrill Hoge who immediately challenged McShay's choice of Geno for the Cards at #7 pointing out that nothing will ruin a young QB faster than getting beaten up due to lousy pass blocking.

McShay quickly backtracked, saying that he felt at least one QB was guaranteed to be drafted in the first round, and it might as well be Smith to the Cards at #7.

It pays to periodically remind ourselves that mocks are not "real" - all they are is what some dude says.

You build a team from the ground up and who has their hand on the ground every down, the Oline.

This is just a further example that a Geno Smith choice isn't a "reach." Like it or not, he's going to go high in the first round. That's his value.

No, that's an example of reaching for a QB, like Tennesse did with Locker and Minny did with Ponder.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle of you and Solar.

Solar's right that the value of something is where it gets purchased. The value of something is the most that someone is willing to pay that acquires it.

You're saying essentially that those teams (and I'd add in Jacksonville's drafting of Blaine Gabbert the same year) evaluated those prospects poorly, and their draft evaluations were not in line with the reality of the prospect.

There's no consensus value of a player. The Cards had Daryl Washington rated much, much more highly than his draft position, for example, although clearly a lot of teams didn't have him rated as highly.

The trick is to have good evaluations on your players, and identifying a break-even point where you're willing to move up to get someone, because you feel like your evaluation is better than others', and you anticipate getting great value.

EDIT: Where Solar is just wrong is in saying that Todd McShay's mock draft is some confirmation that Geno Smith is going to go in the first half of the first round. He may do that, but NFL teams haven't even begun stacking their draft boards yet, and won't for another couple of weeks.

Locker is not Ponder. And Ponder was the big reach that year. Locker has got a ton of potential still.

Considering our situation I wouldn't say a QB is anywhere near rediculous, especially the consensus #1 this season.
