After one season with the Philadelphia Eagles that featured a Super Bowl and a career revitalization and a new position, offensive lineman Mekhi Becton is on the move. The Los Angeles Chargers announced Friday they signed Becton, with ESPN reporting the deal is for two years. Becton had his best season as a pro in 2024 while playing on a one-year, $2.75 million deal.Drafted 11th overall by the New York Jets in 2020 as a projected left tackle, the Louisville product never materialized into a consistent starter for “Gang Green.” Injuries played a part and caused him to all but one game in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
But with the Eagles and under the tutelage of offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, Becton thrived at right guard for the reigning champions as a part of arguably the best offensive line in the NFL. He started 15 games for the team during the regular-season and all four playoff victories.Becton — 6-7, and 363 pounds — is one of the most physically imposing linemen in the league. With Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt already on the line, it figures Becton will fill a guard spot for Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers.
