Q: I caught a few Vanderbilt games this year and really liked QB Jay Cutler. I'm a Dolphins fan and would like to see him in Miami. Where do you project him? — Dave, New Jersey
Cutler might even be gone before Miami picks, if you can believe it. Miami right now is going to be in the middle of the draft, and Cutler could be a top-12 pick. He could be an intriguing player for teams like Arizona, Baltimore and Detroit. Several teams that are picking ahead of Miami will be in the market for a quarterback.

Cutler does need to have a good Senior Bowl week. The Senior Bowl is what propelled Philip Rivers into the top of the first round of the 2004 draft and Jason Campbell into a late first-round pick in 2005. If Cutler has a good Senior Bowl week in Mobile, Ala., he could be an early- to mid-first-round pick. He'll probably go a little bit before Miami, but he might be there for the Dolphins.

Miami head coach Nick Saban is well

Man this dude is soaring up the charts. I was high on him all season.......guess I wasn't the only one. No 2nd round for him. Now you'd have to debate if you'd take him with our Top 10 pick.

I just don't know. I have seen very little of the guy and would be very leery of spending a top 10 pick on him, but at some point you gotta pull the trigger and get someone in here that has a legit shot at being the QBOF.

I will be watching him very closely when the Senior Bowl rolls around.

I've never seen him play so I'm anxious to get a chance. I did a google search and after getting past all the Jay Cutler bodybuilding sites I found a 6'4" 225 pounder with awfully good stats. The game that jumps out at you is the LSU loss, just over 30% no TD's 2 picks, but LSU is awfully talented and it sounds like Cutler had very little talent on his roster to play with.

Can't wait to see him in an All Star Game.

And how can you not like a kid that was born in Santa Claus, Indiana?

The key to when Cutler gets picked will be heavily influenced by Vince Young's ultimate decision to stay or to go. Quinn will stay and will be a top three pick next year.

If we stay where we are at #6/#7, and Vince declares, he'll be a Cardinal next year.

Cutler

I know all to well about Jay Cutler. I am the DC at South Spencer High school, Jay Cutler's hated rival. Cutler played at Heritage Hills High School and he is a heck of a talent. I knew that he was special in high school, but had no idea that he would be a first round pick in the NFL someday. I now feel much better as a DC because in 2000 we intercepted him three times in a game we lost 14-6 to the eventual 3a Indiana state champions, Heritage Hills. Just Kidding. I know I had nothing to do with it. :)

There sure are alot of head coaches in the Midwest that Cutler has made eat crow. Cam Cameron, then the head coach at Indiana, didn't want Cutler saying that he wouldn't be able to quarterback in the Big Ten. He went to Vandy because he simply did not have another Division 1 scholarship offer. He's a great player that I would love to see us pick up, but I will admit that I am somewhat biased in forming that opinion.

Thanks. It seems that Cutler is your classic gunslinger. Has a lot of confidence in that arm and not afraid of throwing a pick to make a play. Took a lot of hits in games I watched, but has a large frame and seems tough.

If you like QBs that just make their plays and don't turn the ball over.......you wouldn't like Cutler. He'd probably need to sit for a year, maybe two to try and figure out pro offenses. Probably needs work on his footwork and stuff....they almost all do......but it is hard to gauge this only watching on TV.

I smell a seat on the bandwagon for me. After the Senior Bowl, and depending upon where we pick, I'm guessing this will be the guy I want us to draft.

Yes I found those sites too. Hey those sweeps where the QB has to block will be a lot more effective with this beast at QB! :D

I don't know college players all that well but I do know this.

If I'm picking in the top 10 I am going to want a one on one interview that lasts at least 30 minutes to an hour with anyone I might remotely take with that pick.

Here I am looking for their character but more specifically I am going to try to determine if they have the leadership qualities I need, especially a top 10 pick QB.

I think this is where Josh falls way short, he's got the physical tools and certainly you need that but the QB is going to be the one you build your offense around 90% of the time.

I'd want someone intelligent enough to grasp the system, resilient enough to absord the learning curve without breaking down mentaly and self confident but not a complete arrogant idiot like Ryan Leaf.

Plummer qualifies but he's only going to be good in systems like Denver runs, if you want someone Elway like Jake isn't exactly that, he's too scatter brained to be Elway, he's Elway light in that he can make magic happen and he can dig giant holes too.

Vince Young to me isn't all you need, he might be, he's talented that's for sure but I'd be leary of a Texas running QB in the extreme. I've seen Young play a couple times against Mizzou and I wasn't impressed at his pro prospects. He'd be great at some things but you need someone that can pass from the pocket in the NFL. I am not at all sure he will be that, he may be but he might not.

I'd let the interview decide for me once I got the measurables out of the way and I'd take the best leader of the two.

Like I said in an earlier post, I watched Cutler up close in the first game of the season at WF. He played well. Great zip on the ball, and fairly atheltic. Rushed for 80+ yards and threw for around 300.

What struck me about him is that he is pretty fearless. Takes hits gets back up, when he runs he rarely slides. Tough as nails.

Dare I put the jinx on this kid, but I have to say alittle part of his game reminds me of Jake Plummer but with a much better arm. He is soemtimes reckless witht he ball and will force throws and he has the ability to scramble. He isnt nearly as quick and is much bigger than Jake, but he does have some similiar qualities.

Honestly, some of ya'll need to go to NFL draft forums. It opens some eyes on where some folks are rated.

I knew he'd be a draft-riser, but I didn't think he'd be talked about this high, this early.

I think he'll start gaining a lot more traction on everyone's boards in the coming months. In a sense, that's good for us if we want him--he'll be there when we pick, and if he's looking like a top-half of the draft choice, then we can take him without reaching.

Every year one QB shots up a half a round or so. Either cutler or the Kid from Bowling Green will go in the teens. QBs are too important and too many teams need one.

I read that site and he is very knowledgeable(Scott WRight) but his last mock has the Texans taking Ferguson over Reggie Bush, seriously doubt that will happen they'd almost assuredly trade down a slot or two if they don't want Bush.

The other thing I don't like about that site is all the popups, you pretty much have to run a spyware program everytime you visit that site. Not that it's his fault about the spyware but the popups are advertising that is really annoying IMHO.

ICDYK, Jay Cutler (the bodybuilder) is one of the most highly regarded bodybuilders in the world today. I believe he has 3 2nd places in the Mr. Olympia contest (the most prestigious bodybuilding contest in the world) and in 2 of them, there was a lot of debate as to whether or not he should have won.

:bhiich: Lets get a Great young QB before Boldin and Fitz are over the hill. There are 3 out there we get a low pick, get er done. I don't want want to see Boldin and Fitz go threw there careers with a new QB and new chemistry every year. Its bad enough we have new Offensive Coordinator ever year. I saw a special on Harrison and Manning, how Harrison just runs to open spaces even if his route doesn't call for it. Manning will still throw the ball, before he even cuts, knowing excatly where he is going. Thats not something learned in 4 games, its something it takes years to get to. Switching around QB's who nooneelse wants every year, from the FA list isn't a good plan.

Cutler, Young, Lienhart, Quinn would all be a great addition to this team.

At the start of the season he was considered the best QB in the SEC.
