Started real slow but came alive in 2nd quarter. Let's hope we continue to play at this level and finish this game strong.

Clips lost today.

No Gasol, Jones, or Battier in the 4th ...oh well great win =)

Why is that? They got hurt?

I see we got a pretty big lead at the half and Griz tried to come back in the end.

Nice win!

The grizzlies are an interesting team. They don't really have any star players, but they somehow can stay failry competitive in the West.

If they didn't miss something like 12 straight shots in the fourth, this wouldn't even have been close down the stretch.

It was a really odd game. Thomas only played about 6 minutes, so the Suns played super small the entire game. The Grizzlies ended up playing a very small lineup to match. Wright didn't play, Gasol was out out in the fourth quarter.

The weirdest thing about this game was that the Suns played most of the game with no one over 6'8", but had 12 blocked shots.

Very big night for the Suns bench:

Huge game by Barbosa who scored 24 points on 7 of 11 shooting including 3 of 4 for three for 24 points, had three rebounds, and 4 assists. Unfortunately he gave up some turnovers, but made up for it with some breathtaking drives to the basket including forcing D Jones to foul him in crunch time.

James Jones went 4 of 8 for three as he scored 16 and blocked 4 shots.

Eddie was efficient with 8 points in 13 minutes including 3 of 5 shooting including 2 of 2 for three.

This is 48 points off the bench!

Hakim Warrick looked really good when he was in there. That play where he took off on the breakaway for a dunk was sick! (it would have been even sicker if he had actually made the dunk). I wonder who has the higher vertical...Marion or Warrick?

Every draft report had Warrick as the most athletic big guy out there and could jump through the roof. However, his lack of an outside shot, lack of physcial strength, and impossibly bad foul shooting scared some people off. However, he does have some great inside moves, so he has a lot of promise.

I think the Grizz tried to play small and the Suns countered with an even smaller lineup. Jones looks like he can play some D. I don't get why the Suns were doubling on Warrick, Diaw played good one-on-one D vs Warrick. Good win!

The suns fell behing by 10, then went to a small ball lineup late in the first quarter and steamrolled to an 18 pt halftime lead(42 point 2nd quarter). Diaw did a much better job defending Gasol than KT, and also exploited the matchup on the other end. The suns small ball lineup was so successful with Barbs, Jones and House all contributing from the bench and Marion and Diaw and Jones playing defense by blocking shots in the lane, that it did not seem to be a good move to put KT in. The problem with the small ball lineup is who will Barbs, House, and Nash guard. The refs seemed almost hypersensitive to calling contact and hand check fouls at times last night, especially against the Grizzlies. Maybe they reviewed some films and got religion. Just one more indication of inconsistency in the officiating compared with the wolves game.

KT was playing on an injured foot, apparently, and couldn't continue after a few minutes.

I was at last nights game and that 1st qtr was horrible. I thought the refs might've been reacting to Steve Nash's comments about feeling like the Seattle Seahawks because they almost refused to call a foul on Memphis. The only foul on Memphis was a hand check foul on Atkins when Nash was going to have a layup.

D'Antoni rode the refs the entire 1st qtr and almost got T'd up a couple of times. One time, the ref actually called D'Antoni out to halfcourt, started arguing with him and then yelled at him to get back to his bench. D'Antoni continued to complain and then began walking back to the bench and the ref had his hands in motion to call D'Antoni for a tech if he looked back at the ref at all as he walked away.

The 2nd & 3rd qtrs were fun and the bench guys gave us a big lift. I also thought it was odd that KT didn't play much, but he hasn't been effective offensively for the last couple of games. Diaw was easily driving past Gasol for layups (although 50% of the time he passed the ball out to a 3pt shooter). Being at the game, I didn't realize how well Barbosa was playing. He had a couple of bad turnovers that lead to fast breaks for Memphis and he missed a few easy layups and that stuck in my mind for some reason. Then I looked up at the scoreboard at the end of the game and he had 24pts and my GF and I both were shocked.

James Jones has stepped up his defense, he's been making a really good effort to get rebounds and keep rebounds alive. He's crashing the offensive glass and his ability to block shots in the paint was huge last night. They interviewed him on KTAR after the game and he basically said that he's just starting to feel like his conditioning has gotten to the level it needs to be at to run with the Suns. So hopefully we'll keep seeing that kind of effort from him.

Eddie House did a decent job last night. The crowd gets into the game whenever Eddie hits a shot because they know he might get on fire. His playmaking and ball handling ability still varies from game to game and it looked like he made too many mistakes early in the 4th because D'Antoni pulled him quickly and put Nash back in with 9:30 to go.

About Kurt from the Republic:

But with Kurt Thomas taken out of the mix by a jammed foot and Memphis' small lineup, Boris Diaw stepped up to handle possible All-Star Pau Gasol. Gasol finished with 15 points as Grizzlies coach Mike Fratello did not play him or any other starter (but for six seconds from Chucky Atkins) in a fourth-quarter rally.

I generally agree with your comments, beech, but your memory failed here.

It's true that Nash re-entered the game with over 9 minutes to go but Eddie didn't sit then. D'A went very small with Nash, Eddie, Barbs, Jones & Diaw. At about the 7 minute mark Shawn and Bell replaced Leandro and James and then Leandro back came in for Eddie with a little over 4 minutes left. If I remember right House went 2/3 with 1 made 3pter in that 8 min stretch, so D'A probably pulled him for not shooting enough. (Actually, I think the coach didn't pull him for any particular reason - it looked like he wanted to give Barbosa a breather then put him back in to finish out the game.) The Suns made a number of poor plays in the fourth but the only one I recall that House made was missing a defensive rotation near the hoop - not his normal territory but he was the only one in the area. On the plus side I remember he set a nice back pick on Warrick that sprung JJones and zinged a great pass to Nash at the hoop - unfortunately Steve didn't realize he could have turned around and layed it in unchallenged.
