The Mercury have hired Vanessa Nygaard to replace Sandy Brondello as the team's head coach, a source told ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. Nygaard is an assistant coach for the Aces.

We seemed to swing for the fences with Weatherspoon, and when she rejected us, for some reason (maybe didn’t want the bad look of being rejected again by someone) we just settled for Nygaard.
