In the opening days of free agency, word broke that the Tennessee Titans were moving on from punter Ryan Stonehouse after not extending the $3.26 million restricted free agent tender.
It didn’t take long for the former Pro Bowl punter to latch on with a new team.
On Sunday, multiple outlets reported that Stonehouse had agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins. The move will reunite Stonehouse with his former special teams coordinator, Craig Aukerman, who was hired to be the Dolphins' special teams coordinator in January.
Stonehouse did see a drop in production in 2024 in all major categories coming off a torn ACL, but he still averaged 52.2 yards (41.9 net) per punt with the Titans. He also had two punts blocked.
A change in scenery and coaching should help Stonehouse regain his Pro Bowl status. His statistics could have been better if the Titans had even average special teams units, but instead they were one of the worst coverage teams in NFL history in 2024 and had issues in every facet.
Stonehouse will join the Dolphins and compete with punter Jake Bailey, who is still on the roster.
