I hope this pitching gets out of their slump before the post season...

The Cardinals have now pulled ahead of the Brewers so that is the team that has to lose to lower the playoff magic number.

What has he done that makes him not a good right fielder?
Here is what I asked in the "If You HAD To Choose" thread and didn't see one convincing answer.

I have watched a lot of D-backs games this season and don't remember one instance where JD's play in the outfield cost us a game. I can't even remember one time, any more than any other player, when he misplayed a ball. And that includes getting to balls, taking the correct angle, etc. I think he is getting a bum rap.

If you have some instances, I'd be curious to hear the type you mean which would override what he has meant to Goldy's performance and his own game after game.

Along with good ERA's among our starting pitchers and a dependable set-up and closer relief situation, I believe JD's contribution is the biggest reason for our success, even if his fielding numbers aren't that good.

And, as has been pointed out, if we let JD sign elsewhere and Tomas returns to the lineup, we'd have a worse defender, by far.

All of that makes up the big picture. JD has meant a lot more to the D-backs since he arrived than his shortcomings. Without him, we would not be leading the wild card race in the NL.

I read where you said that, didn't someone post a link to his fielding issues while he was in Detroit after your post? Still don't see where some say he stinks as a out fielder.

Missed the game and just saw the score. Did Stanton inject everyone with roids?

I don't know if I heard this correctly but since JD has come to az he is hitting a home run in every 8 at bats roughly. That doesn't even includes RBI's. Where's the proof he is a bad defender? And does his defensive shortcomings outweigh what he produces on offense?

Couldn't believe how far that ball went off Iannetta's bat. Is there any doubt the balls are juiced?

In that link they only cover a 3 year span. It reads he was Ok in 2014. A finalist for a gold glove in 2015. Then it show stats he had a bad 2016 year but wondered if his injury was in part to blame. What I got from it is how bad or good he could be as a defender was up in the air.

Now let's see how this years stats break down. Stats are good but they don't tell the whole story. People that just read stat lines and don't watch most of the games IMO really don't know anything. The man will make any team a lot better. He wasn't the DH in Detroit and we would not be looking at the playoffs without him.

Anyone see that ending of the Cubs/Brewers? That series has been BANANAS. All 3 games went to xtra innings with the Brewers winning today. September baseball baby!

How great is this? To be relevant at the end of a season? It's been far too long and I'm enjoying every second!

Yes, and my post was meant to highlight ... who cares what he's done in the past?

Since joining the D-backs, healthy and productive at bat beyond hope, we haven't seen any fielding problems worse than anyone else.

All posters have a right to their opinions, but I don't see how any D-backs fan would seek to minimize what JD means to us and how, without him, we wouldn't be a game away from clinching a playoff spot.

Even, regarding the debate about keeping Grienke vs. JD in the other thread, I choose JD. I value an ace pitcher but, at best, Zack has the potential to affect every fifth game. JD has the potential to affect every game of the season -- even those where he may get a rest and be available to pinch hit late in the game.

Is Greinke available to be a closer on his off days? Well, maybe once a year when he could do it in Game 7 of the World Series as RJ did back in 2001.

P.S.: It seems so obvious, I think this is the easiest post I've had to write.
