Michigan basketball didn't even have much time to celebrate winning the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday, as just after the trophy presentation, the selection committee announced the NCAA Tournament bracket. Though it had appeared as if the maize and blue, especially after winning the Big Ten, would be a 4-seed, it turns out, the selection committee wasn't that kind to Michigan.

The Wolverines ended up being selected as a 5-seed in the South region. They will be playing 12-seed UC San Diego -- a team on a 15-game winning streak -- in Denver, Colorado on Thursday. The winner of that game will play either 4-seed Texas A&M or 13-seed Yale -- Danny Wolf's former team.

Elsewhere in the region, 1-seed Auburn will play 16-seed Alabama State or St. Francis, while 8-seed Louisville will play 9-seed Creighton. If Michigan survives the first weekend, it will play the winner of these teams in the second weekend in the Sweet 16.

6-seed Ole Miss will play 11-seed San Diego State or North Carolina, 3-seed Iowa State will play 14-seed Lipscomb, 7-seed Marquette will play 10-seed New Mexico, and 2-seed Michigan State will play 15-seed Bryant -- coached by the son of former Michigan assistant, Phil Martelli.

This will be the first NCAA Tournament appearance in two years as the Wolverines' last invitation came in 2022 -- when Juwan Howard's team got ousted in the Sweet 16.
