No more politics discussion please. We don't want this to turn into something that becomes messy.

Sorry not my intent then let's say that Florio has strong opinions on Michael. I bet if Michael was out his tune on the Cardinals would change.

he loves to conflate things

He could make the argument that trading Simmons is evidence that the org doesnt care about winning games this year

but

even if the first part it true -- taking less draft comp than you could is at odds with the tank -- where you want the best picks possible

I think that's why guys with real tradable value haven't been traded...........yet.

Montis analysis was probably like this:

1. Early returns on Simmons playing safety weren't good
2. Near 100% likelihood he leaves after this season
3. Since they didnt pick up his option, no draft compensation when he leaves in FA
4. Since 2023 is a reset year, get what you can for him now

#3 is incorrect. Rookies who don't have their 5th year options picked up still factor into the draft compensation.

However, he may not have netted much more than a 7th compensatory pick anyway.

He also might have proved to be a contributor that you re-sign. We re-sign worse players all the time.

I think people automatically think if they're good enough to re-sign, it's going to be expensive. That's not always the case.

Wonder who Florio thinks is getting the #1 pick.

Mike Florio is awful. His takes are almost always off base and his takes about the Cardinals and Jonathan Gannon this last off-season and so far in the regular season have been embarrassing to say the least for a so called "expert".

Just can't give any credit to the Cardinals

He must be a miserable man
Same with moose in the booth. He couldn't say anything good about the cards as he was too busy slobbering all over the cowgirl jocks. He even said "we" one time referring to the cow patties. Good times today boys and girls.
