First year DG went 8-8 after Joyner and other pals. The next year we played the Bears and he was gone!

With all that talent, DG's teams may not have been the worst in te league. they only lost to the worst team in the league every year.

Hey, he even did it twice one year. Amazing that Green's teams lost 4 games over a 3 year period to the teams that had the #1 draft pick the following year.
49ers twice in '04, Texans in '05 and Raiders in '06.

But he sure brought in some talent. Okafor, Warner, James, and Berry, to add to that 2004 draft Fitz, Dansby, Dockett and Antonio Smith. Just couldn't coach worth a flip.

Fitz would have still been the choice regardless if Denny green were here or not.

Not so sure

That was the year of Eli, Rivers and Roethlisberger.

River and Ben were on the board, and the Cards had just finished a season with Josh McCown as QB.

gotta agree. any other coach probably takes a franchise QB in their first year to grow with. that's kind of a coach's ultimate scenario to be able to land a top flight rookie QB in their first draft to hopefully rise with.

Yeah, but remember the consensus was we were going to take an olineman first in that draft, as Green was supposed to be a QB guru who had recycled veterans thought to be washed up into elite play. And, Green probably believed his own hype after how he had done in Minnesota.

What a draft -- Fitz, Dansby and Dockett were the first three picks. Followed by Stepanovich, Antonio Smith, Leckey and John Navarre.

Unquestionably, still the best draft ever for the AZ Cards. What other draft have we ever had were 4 players were still quality NFL starters 10 years later?

Any coach here was handcuffed by the ineptitude of Rod Graves.

AS for Jenkins, I like the idea of bringing him in. I think he'd ben an excellent #3 CB.

I'm with you. The reason Fitz was Green's pick was Larry's dad was Denny's good buddy. Turned out well for us though.

Free Agency really changed things. 1963 St.Louis Cardinals draft:

Larry Stallings 14 years in the NFL
Jerry Stovall 9 years
Don Brumm 10 years
Bob Reynolds 11 years
Jackie Smith 16 years
Chuck Walker 13 years
Dave Meggysey 7 years

And almost all of those players spent the majority of their career with the Cardinals. You'll never see that again.

The a cardinals didn't reach for Fitz. He was a can't miss prospect and was an absolutel stud in college.

I dont think that anyone is saying that he was a reach, just that Fitz wasn't our guaranteed pick without Green.
