Wow ... did anyone see his post game speech? Good for him - those players need someone to kick their arse. Good for him that he benched Vernon Davis.

I especiallly liked his "we're not in the charity business ... to give games away." Classic!

It's good that he's showing that he isn't going to take crap, but the whole "Change is coming" part doesn't convince me. He's going to have to prove that change will come. After we beat them, of course.

Vernon Davis is a FIRST-CLASS JERK. Finally, someone with enough cojones and the resume on the field to put this workout wonder in his place.

The rant was laughable and personifies the 9ers new management / ownership. That was a college speech. Pro players aren't going to buy into that rant. What would have happened if the target of Mike's wrath had been Owens, Johnson, etc. Singletary came off as a buffoon in his first game.

In his first game he blew up. He humiliated 2 players, Davis and O'Sullivan, and his OC Martz. Then he came up with his "pulpit" speech. If it wasn't the 49ers, I would say he blew his audition and his interim status would be just that.

Davis is an underperforming clown, but it would be interesting to hear what the Dback woof to Davis was about. He was jawing at Davis on the play and the ref was on the way over to break it up when Davis love tapped the woofer. That was total over reaction , by everyone.

O'Sullivan was benched with 45 seconds to go in the half, so Hill could take a knee. Proves one thing about Singletary. He doesn't understand the new NFL player. They are all about themselves. What happened to the, "we'll take care of this in the locker room theory. I can see Martz and Singletary having a huge difference of opinion over this.

These are the same clowns who are going to offer Condoleeza Rice a front office job.

My thoughts exactly, Wally. This isn't the 1980's. Players make too much money today. You can't call them out in public like that and expect any sort of positive reaction from them.

Hopefully the saga will continue when they visit Glendale.

I have to agree with everything you say.

Yet, I still loved it.

I totally disagree here wally, Singletary had NO choice but to pull JT. they sent him out there on that last drive with a chance to get points. I was coming back from fishing so I'm listening on radio, the sideline guy tells Starkey and Plummer "Singletary stopped JT before he went out for this drive and said whatever you do protect the ball, don't give them another chance to score this half." He then throws a pick six, in FG range, and effectively ends the game.

If Singletary had sent JT out for the 2nd half the 49er fans would have booed mercilessly, and then walked out of the stadium. These are fans who've seen Montana, Young, Garcia, they understand what good QB play looks like, and they are seeing absolute crap out of O'Sullivan. He needed to be benched, he's careless.

As for Martz, he needed it too, did you notice how in the 2nd half it was dink and dunk. Plummer said on radio, if they can make that change because Hill doesn't have a big arm, why did Martz persist in having JT force the ball downfield when all it resulted in was picks, sacks and lost fumbles. Why couldn't Martz shorten up the routes for JT the way he is for HIll. I suspect it's because unlike singletary, Nolan didn't show Martz he was serious about protecting the ball.

Davis is a punk, Plummer said if he'd done that in my day they wouldn't need to suspend him the players would have taken care of him. NOw to be fair, when he said that, they thought Vernon had walked out on his own, they didn't know then that Singletary told him to take a shower. But Plummer said it's a situation that's been coming on for a while, since they drafted him basically and it looks like he's finally going to be heavily disciplined.

That team is imploding and it's probably still going to happen but at least Singletary is holding people accountable.

Classic rant. Not up to Dennis Green. "they are what they thought they were" standards, but definitely will be a Coors Lite commercial some day
.

That was entertainment max.

Totally disagree. Singletary will pay in the long run. It ain't college.

BTW, Hill didn't light any fires. That was a Martz vs. Singletary pissing contest and it ain't over. I would not be shocked if JT starts in 2 weeks , after the bye, or Martz resigns or is forced out. Defensive minded HCs suck.

I have to agree with Russ... just because of what you get paid, you don't get a free pass on accountability and performance... that is exactly why they are being paid what they are paid... Singletary was accountable for EVERY PLAY his entire career and he is one of the best ever... for significantly less money... I think he believes in doing the "old-fashioned way" and make them earn it...this philosophy should be more prevalent in professional sports... there are a lot of people making HUGE paychecks that NEVER earn it... I am sure every one of us is held accountable to get the job done in our respective jobs.. if not, we would get called-out or replaced, it;s pretty simple.
I think Whiz has taken this approach for the most part, and it shows in the improvements we are seeing with the Cards... JMHO of course.

Singletary is going to make that team in his image. I kinda think V. Davis isn't going to be a part of that...nor is anyone who isn't strong enough put his nose to Singletary's grindstone.

You can't baby players. Look what happens to coaches who do: you get teams that are uber-talented like the Cowboys and then they under-perform. I'm not saying Singletary is Parcells, but he seems to trend to that side of the coaching spectrum.

He's inhereted a mess and he's starting to clean it up. When you start cleaning, you don't start with a light dusting, you pick up all the garbage first.

Hill would be the starting Qb right now if they hadn't hired Martz. Plummer was talking about that on radio, the reason JT beat out hill and Smith was he knew the offense. The reason he stayed the starter is he has a stronger arm than Hill and Martz' system requires a stronger arm to make the deeper throws. So when they hired Martz, that ended Hill's chance to win the job even though he'd done well last year.

He'll start now but they had to completely change the offense to suit him. I think Singletary made a statement, that offense is resulting in too many turnovers so forget it, I'm benching your QB and you're going to run a more controlled offense. Won't fix the problems but I think he realizes the defense isn't good enough to continually overcome the turnovers by JT, so get JT on the bench.

Yep in a sense he's doing what Green did, make a few statements. Green did it by cutting guys we needed, in the case of Singletary he had a guy in Davis who was the perfect guy to make a statement about, big contract, very cocky, and a huge underachiever. Couldn't script a better guy to make an example of and when he screwed up, Singletary did.

From what I've read what really ticked him off was after davis came off the field, first he nodded no when Singletary tried to talk to him. Singletary eventually went and talked to him on the bench and he apparently didn't handle it well and that's when Singletary got mad and told him to go take a shower. So that was more about his reaction to being disciplined than just getting another stupid penalty.
