FOXBOROUGH — It’s been almost three weeks since New England signed star wideout Stefon Diggs.
In that time, Diggs has been in Foxborough and the Patriots have started their offseason program, so the team may have gotten a better feel for where he’s at in his recovery from an ACL tear.
Asked about Diggs’ progress on Tuesday afternoon at Gillette Stadium, Mike Vrabel channeled his own former head coach, Bill Belichick. Vrabel offered some positive generalities, but twice brought the subject back to the entire team working out in Foxborough.
“I think he’s doing everything — like everybody else — he’s working hard and I think he’s excited about being here and being a Patriot," Vrabel said. “He’s a motivated player. He’s a hungry player, just like everybody else that’s here and that’s working."
In that pre-draft press conference, Diggs was the only player on the current roster that Vrabel fielded a question on. As such, it seemed the new Patriots coach made a point to lump him in with “everybody else” on the team as he shared enthusiasm about their offseason work.
“That’s been the most exciting thing, I think, for me,” Vrabel said. “They’re asking good questions. They’re into it. They know that some things are going to be different and that change happens every year.”
