Anyone download Minecraft for the Xbox One yet? This game was the reason my kids saved their money for an Xbox One. Just curious how long it's taking for people to download?

Why didn't they just get it on a PC? Any 5-10 year old PC can run it. It's literally one of the weakest games in terms of processing power needed by a major game in the last close to a decade.

Here's the minimum specs
CPU: Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 (K8) 2.6 GHz
RAM: 2GB
GPU (Integrated): Intel HD Graphics or AMD (formerly ATI) Radeon HD Graphics with OpenGL 2.1
GPU (Discrete): Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT or AMD Radeon HD 2400 with OpenGL 3.1
HDD: At least 200MB for Game Core and Other Files
Java 6 Release 45

I bet it can run at below some of those specs even.

Also you don't need to pay for online to use it (though I'm sure they'll find good uses for other games to use it). Plus the PC version has all sort of mods. Perhaps that's too much work for your children, or perhaps not.

Anyways, hope your kids enjoy their new toy. Obviously they'll be able to enjoy other games that a ultra low end PC has no shot at handling.

Um, you can do all that with a PC. It uses an HDMI just like an Xbox One.

I'm sitting on a recliner using a 40inch HDTV and in my lap is an Xbox 360 controller (and just like the console you can have at least 4 controllers at the same time).

This setup works fine for my PS3, PS4, Wii U, and PC. Not a lick of difference needed for how one sits or what one's screen is.

It's been like this since HDTV's came out. There is no need for a monitor unless you want those 1440/1600p monitors, and even then, with 4k out, lots of people already have 4ktv's hooked up to their computers.

Thus the old, I want a big screen and sit on a sofa hasn't been a real differentiator for close to a decade because PC's are just like that now. You can hook your PC up to the same HDTV you play Xbox One on, as long as it's from a decent graphics card from 2007 onwards, or just about any cheapo card not long after. It doesn't matter if you built it yourself or got suckered by buying a Dell or Alienware. ALL PC's have an HDMI out that are relatively recent as I've noted above. (though I can't vouch for PC's with integrated graphics..i.e. no graphics card).

So if you guys haven't figured that out... now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

yeah its all possible but its easier to buy an xbox IMO. I dont want my computer in my living room and etc.

Plus Xbox will last a long time and have tons of other games too vs being limited to pc games.

To each his own.

Substance over style

What is your mission? What is the objective? I purchased it for the kids because they might want to play it on Xbox One, but damn. I'd rather play Superman 64 than Minecraft.

Ha. So true, but man it keeps kids entertained for hours. Not sure that is a good thing though. I guess the good part of it is allows them to be creative by building a world. Doesn't even come close to Sim city though. That game was awesome when it first came out and was so addicting!

i tried a demo the other day and it does have missions and objectives to beat levels and etc.

IE: I had to build something so I had to go harvest wood from a tree and then once the thing was built it allowed me to build more stuff and I had to mine those materials and etc.

The first time i played it just felt like I was digging holes or adding dirt to things but this time it had clear mission directions that I had to complete.

They could jazz it up and make it much prettier and make the text easier to read but it does have missions and directives.

Personally, there are many other games I would prefer to play but i did have fun with my 6 year old playing it for an hour or so.

They have minecraft on their ipods and on the PC. It's the ability to play 4 player on one giant screen that they love.

That was the main reason, not the only reason. My son also plays a ton of other games as well. I wanted them to get the latest console even though in the short term the game selection was limited.

I had never played minecraft before but started a map with my kids on the Xbox One. I must admit it is kind of addicting. We are building a huge castle together in Survival mode. Very simple game but if you are creative you can do a lot with it.

They just released a Doctor Who pack for those still playing on the XBOX 360. Not a fan of this game at all. However, my daughter likes it.

Once I finally did the tutorial on one player, it was much easier. when you split the screen the text becomes near impossible to read.

Playing the tutorial on one player now I know how to use furnaces and etc and do all kinds of stuff. Its actually a very interesting, deep game. reminds me a lot of viva pinata - looked stupid and childish and then I was addicted and found out the game was incredibly deep.

PS: I bought this on gamefly for only $12. Smoking deal considering how much my son is into it and how I am starting to enjoy it myself.

I still will need to go through and learn all the other stuff though, once the basic tutorial is done it sends you into that town but there is too much to learn in one sitting without getting very confused.

One thing on my list of fun things to do is going to be to build a roller coaster minecart. It seems simple enough to do.

I bought it for $5 when it was on sale through the marketplace for my children. They have played it a little, but I rarely give up the TV in order for them to use it. :D

I enjoy it.

Me and my daughter created a world call PG13 that is for just me and her so my son doesnt show up and flood the houses and put lava everywhere.

Then we have the for everyone creative mode that has all kinds of weird buildings and etc.

Fun game. I think I paid 1499 on gamefly? well worth it. I need a 3rd Xbone controller though.

My kids used to obsess over this game. It's finally worn off LOL. My son is in HS this year so he has moved on to more of the games I like. My daughter is now hardcore into Disney Infinity 2.0.

Cracks me up to hear you talking the flooding and lava. I always hear my kids screaming because their cousin would get into their world and destroy it.
