MN is known for many things.. but definitely NOT their food!!

I seem to recall a preponderance of fried Perch and Northern Pike... And it was never any good!

Sausage on a saltine

Seriously. My whole family is from Duluth, MN. Cut up a polish sausage and eat it on a saltine. Then wash this down with some egg white whipped with sugar poured over hot water and rum (this is called a Tom and Jerry). Every year in the month of December you can find Tom and Jerrys in any pub in the north.

Big blonde women of Norwegian ancestry with big blue eyes and big natural bosoms. That's the best Minnesota has to offer and it ain't bad.

Walleye rocks! We have a little mom $ pops place called the Tin Cup who has 3 slabs of Walleye, heaping plate of seasoned fries and a large drink for $7.00. $10 all-you-can-eat walleye during lent.

After reading the whole thread, this is the only thing that sounds remotely appetizing. Seriously.

Looking like brats is gaining momentum.

lefse is tasty and obtainable - but more of a snack
I think I'm going to have this for "dessert".

I'm going to look into walleye. Fish sounds fantastic.

Donald...the potatoes on the grill don't sound good to you? I think that sounds great!

$22.00 / lb! That is ridiculous! I've never bought it in a store but I'm positive its not that expensive here.

Although by the time you pay for truck gas, boat gas, gear, licenses and beer - $22.00 / lb is probably pretty dang cheap!

:D

By the way, there is walleye in AZ. Google arizona walleye once.....

$22 per pound is what it costs in Arizona to have it flied in. It's about $8 per pound in most supermarkets in the Minneapolis area.

Brats sound good. I may take a stab at mashed-potato-filled pierogies on Saturday and see how they turn out.

St Paulie's is a great idea.

not to nit pick -- but Brat, pierogies, etc are really a Wisconsin thing --- owing to the German and Polish immigrant backgrounds.

Minnesota is really Scandanavian in background and distinct.

I know that to us -- Minnesotans and Wisconsins seem pretty much the same to us -- funny accents, a love of heavy foods, alchohol and liberal politics --

but they think of themselves quite different.

pragmatically -- unless you go to Ikea and pick up a bunch of Swedish meatballs -- brats might be your most actionable choice.

Oh, no doubt. The wife's dad's family is Norwegian, and both sides live in (northern) South Dakota, so naturally she makes a good Swedish meatball.
