not sure if it showed up on TV but there were two plays where palmer missed wide open receivers for touchdowns. he still completed the shorter route for a first down but still missed a wide open Floyd and an incredibly wide open Patrick Peterson for sure tds.

we can't leave those points just sitting out there. When a fat one comes over the plate Palmer has to crush it. First downs are great but touchdowns are required.

You mean all 1 of them? I'm talking about drive extenders :D

Btw he missed Fitz for a potential TD up the sidelines on an out & up also.

Is that the one he overthrew him on?

I almost wonder if that was a fitz hammy issue...

Or did he just not see hiim at all running wide open? That's the two I'm talking about...guys running wide open..on the PP one, Patrick didn't have a guy within 15 yards, and on the Floyd one he was at least 10 yards deeper than the coverage, right down the middle.

One thing I do love about our endzone view is the ability to see what the QB is (should be) seeing.

Listen, Palmer is FAR FAR better than anyone we had the last three seasons. He can throw some beautiful balls. But, he does not do well with pressure, and inexplicably misses some reads at time.

To me, if the Palmer of the first two games is the Palmer we get all season... he is a stopgap. A pretty decent stopgap, but I'm looking for a QB in one of the deepest QB drafts in year.

Agreed. He's an extra strength band-aid, but I still want and think this team needs a legit franchise QB if it ever wants to be a year in year out contender.

But I'm happy with him for this year. The games are a hell
Of a lot more entertaining with him behind C then they have Ben the last 3 years.

Agree with poster but i wont complain. Palmer is a man in that collapsing pocket and has been poised and made some incredible throws so far. He will finish the year as a top 10 QB behind an awful OL.

Don't get it twisted, I love having Palmer back there. I don't like leaving points on the field though. Gotta hit those home runs when they are fat and down the middle.

I thought the same thing on the play where Patrick Peterson was running uncovered up the sideline but when i watched the replay I noticed that Palmer didn't have his feet set and was backing off from a pass rusher who was diving at this knees. It looked like the pressure made him throw the underneath route and then they also tacked on 15 yards for roughing the passer.

There was another play where he threw to Floyd in the back of the endzone and Ellington(?) was running up the sideline without anyone near him. But, I am sure there are mis reads every game.

Considering how bad our offensive line has been Palmer's play has been rather remarkable. Same for Mendenhall. He makes something out of nothing better than anyone we've had since Edgerrin James.

Great to see a QB get the football in the air instead of bailing out and running backward into a sack.

I think it's also worth mentioning that he's on a new team and in a new system. Might take him more than a couple of games to get comfortable.

Beating the Lions without Fitz is cause for compliments, not criticisms IMO.

Still no excuse for his passes down the sidelines to be good only on a CFL field. Palmer is still miles ahead of what we had.

I am surprised at how good our running game is, now if we can just get a lead and use it!

There is always cause for criticism.

You can be happy and criticize, which is what I'm doing. Carson is light-years beyond what we had last year. But there are points to be had out there, and we have to start grabbing them up in bunches, especially when playing powerhouse offenses that score fast (or have elite TEs which we simply can't cover).

Look, with the complaints are "missed the big play but still got the first down" that's a massive improvement from "threw a scud missle into the stands" or "sprayed larry's legs with dirt with that lawn dart" that we've had the last few years.

Palmer played better than any of our QBs in a long time even though he did miss a wide open LF on one play that could have been a TD. It would be interesting to hear what Palmer had to say about that play. Did he just not see Fitz or just make a bad throw? I cannot believe he made that bad a throw. He was very good on the throws over the middle and to the side. He looked like a QB who did not panic and would stand in the pocket and looked like an NFL QB. Compare that to the previous QBs for the past few years. Guys like Hall????????

What I saw missing was a good pass rush. I did not see many blitzes which may have been by design. Next year we need to acquire a big time pass rusher. Of course we should have Cooper back but yesterday Stafford seemed to have all day and was on target. Many talking heads had Detroit as a surprise team this year pre season. With that monster receiver they have they are going to win some games. To me he is the best receiver in the NFL. He is a Fitz and then some when Fitz was a little younger. They started double teaming him even though we had Patterson on him near the end. He is almost unstoppable. Had we not had Patterson on him no telling what he might have done. We have one of the best pair of DB's in the NFL and both were 1st rounders so we did something right.

Johnny Football convinced me he is the real deal this Saturday. He is not just hype but will likely be the first guy selected if he comes out next year. Since he is from a wealthy family he may not come out next year as money may not be a factor. Not sure anyone can beat Bama and they are likely a three peat for the national title. How they keep getting all these great players is beyond me. Alabama is not the prettiest state. The University campus is nothing special but they send a ton of guys to the NFL which is probably why they keep getting all these great players. Their QB will likely go in the first round the next draft. Tennessee may give Bama their best game this year.

Has Palmer really been sacked that many times?

On the Palmer interception I still do not know if it was Palmer or the receiver who was at fault. The receiver came to a total stop and Palmer threw to where he thought the receiver would be. Could have been either one.

It looked like Dray read zone from the LB and held up, trying to sit in the space between zones. Palmer thought he was going to keep going across the front of the LB and threw it to where he thought Dray was going to be.

They just have to get it straight what to do in that situation. Hard to say who was at fault, without knowing route reads the Cardinals have installed, impossible to know.

I'll just blame that on lack of experience together and expect that to happen less and less as they all get more used to each other.

Yup. Dray squatted in the zone. Palmer apparently thought Dray could continue his route across the field and threw to an open spot which turned out to be jumped by a guy named Levy.
