STARKVILLE — Another Mississippi State women's basketball starter is entering the transfer portal.

Point guard Denim DeShields, who started all 34 games this season as a junior, plans to enter the transfer portal, a program spokesperson told the Clarion Ledger on Tuesday.

DeShields, the younger sister of WNBA player Diamond DeShields, is the sixth player to enter the transfer portal since the season ended. It also means only four players are slated to return after MSU (22-12) reached the NCAA tournament second round for the second time in three seasons.

DeShields transferred to MSU from UAB a year ago, and averaged 5.7 points, 3.2 assists, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 27.1 minutes per game.

What Denim DeShields entering transfer portal means for Mississippi State

The Mississippi State roster is undergoing heavy turnover, especially now with DeShields entering the portal.

Two starters, center Madina Okot and guard/forward Debreasha Powe, have already entered the transfer portal. Guard/forward Eniya Russell is out of eligibility, and so is guard Jerkaila Jordan, the team's leading scorer.

The only players slated to return are Destiney McPhaul, Chandler Prater, Quanirah Montague and Rocio Jimenez.
