Was asked about the Cardinals' 2 2nd interview requests with Munchak and DeFilippo.

Munchak:

* Thinks that if he blows MB & SK away they could sign him this week.
* Doesn't know who his coordinators will be---but thinks Bettcher is the Cardinals' plan as DC.
* Thinks Haley will be fired, but thinks the prospects of his return as OC to AZ is iffy, due to old school coaching style and temperament.

DeFilippo:

* Said he's only getting HC interest from Titans
* Thinks the Cardinals only think of him of as an OC for now
* Claims he needs to be an OC first (I tweeted him that JDF was an OC in CLE and did pretty well under the circumstances---i guess MJ did not know this).

Bettcher:

* Thinks he will not get a 2nd interview for HC, but could be the DC if an offensive coach is hired.
* Said Cardinals know what they have in Bettcher.

Flores:

* Said that there's an inside connection---Adrian Wilson played for him in NE and loves him.
* Has coached offense and defense.
* Thinks he's #2 behind Munchak.

Wilks:

* Says he thinks the the Cardinals liked the first interview.
* Thinks he's #3 behind Munchak and Flores
* Says, if Wilks is hired, no Bettcher.

MJ said the FO is in lockdown and there is no info coming out at all, so much of what he said were his own educated guesses.

My thoughts:

* I hope the Cardinals wait to interview JDF and Flores. Munchak is not a HC candidate anywhere else.
* I think the local media is vastly under-rating JDF. i think it's great that MB & SK have shifted some attention to him now that Shurmur is out of the picture.
* Becoming more and more fascinated with Flores. Have to give credit to MB & SK for choosing him as a candidate. I know a lot about him, being a fellow BC alum. He has superb leadership skills and actually conducts leadership seminars for Boston area youths. Will post more about him tomorrow. Heard today that BF is the Pats' choice to replace Patricia as DC. Not a big surprise. But wouldn't BF want a HC job instead?

And what new and inventive things does Munchak bring?? Please no Munchak

Blegh... I do not get the Munchak love. He comes from a putrid coaching tree, has been a part of losers/mediocrity for the majority of his career and brings very little fresh to the table.

And I'm betting that means we stick with Bettcher as well for some reason. That would be a great start... getting a coach who's not only meh, but not given the option to bring in his own staff.

Which guys are the most "big picture?"

Who are the "players coaches"?

Who are the best leaders?

Who are the most aggressive in coaching style?

Who are best at the nuts and bolts of coaching (i.e. handling adversity, injuries, retirements etc)?

Coaching backgrounds and track records aside - these are the attributes I'm most interested in

Per source, Cardinals have no second interviews scheduled right now. That could change quickly, of course.

that seems... odd. Or they're really waiting on Wilks, Flores and Defilipino who they can't interview again until the break during Super Bowl two week lead up.

I hope this is the case. I want fresh blood in here. Not someone with a long track record of mediocrity.

DeFilippo as our OC would suck. If they like him, he should be our HC. He is still young and has proven on multiple occasions to be a great QB tutor. Interviewed for HC openings this year and the year before. As our OC he is most likely gone in a year or two, regardless of how we do on offense. Well, at least if we aren't dead last or something like that. But you get my point. Replacing your OC, especially with a defensive minded HC, is extremely tough. And imagine we finally draft a promising young QB this year or next year, and DeFilippo leaves for a HC opening. No to DeFilippo as OC!

This is so painful. How does MJ not know JDF was an OC in Cleveland, who actually had Johnny Manziel playing NFL-caliber football? Would make no sense to hire as OC as he would be gone after one successful season. On average there are what, 6 HC openings per year?

Jeff Fisher is still on the market. He's fresh blood, and has a long track record of...football. Good enough?

He just corrected himself on Twitter saying yeah Flip was the OC in CLE (2015); 26th in yards, 30th in points.

Clearly MJ remains avid about Munchak and almost obtuse about JDF.

Maybe Munchak wants to stay in PIT. He has said he loves it there. Maybe something is brewing there with Tomlin and/or Haley?

For some reason I think that if it is Munchak that Bidwill will have to fire SK and MM in three years.

So, he likely thinks Flores is #2 because AW likes him. I highly doubt MB & SK would hire him because AW likes him. This is just front office gossip/speculation. I'd be really, really surprised if they hire Flores.

They all are at this point. Maybe, just maybe, one of the other bigger name guys are still in their grasp?

Every Steelers fan I know, which is a lot, wants Tomlin gone. And also Mike Mitchell. They really want to kill Mike Mitchell.

Sometimes Jurecki knows quite a bit, sometimes he knows nothing...on this topic, I think he knows nothing, and neither does Somers (which isn’t anything new).

BTW, I like the fact that we take our time with the second interviews. Next week, we can interview every remaining candidate and make the best decision relative to picking between who is available ‘now’

MJ is ok. I don’t really take him too serious. I follow him for what little info that is reported on the Cards compared to other teams. I will say that he and I had a disagreement a few months back over a suspension for Kiko Alonzo and I was proven right. So when I went back to him on it. He sent me a DM instead of acknowledging he was wrong in public like he was proclaiming.

He. We’re all wrong from time to time but don’t act holier than thou.

If Munchak is seriously the #1 candidate then Keim has proven to me that he needs to go. Couple that with the fact that Keim doesn't even have a QB on the roster right now has to be very unappealing to any potential HC candidates. What a joke.
