Baseball has been in trouble for a while.

I don't know what these teams are thinking. The success rate for these massive contracts has been very small, while the "franchise crippling bust" rate has been... about 75%.

Big market teams can afford to take a gamble, the small market teams are the ones that suffer because they either pony up the dough or have to sustain draft magic to compete. KC was an anomaly because their core stars were under rookie deals and Cueto was an expiring on a great contract. They along with NYM proved that you can build a contender through the draft but you have to have a hell of a scouting department to find gems and a patient management team to hold on and develop that talent to reap the benefits.

Once again these salaries are widening the divide between the haves and the have nots.
The only way the Dbacks have any chance of acquiring a decent starter is to send some team our entire farm system.

He is the prototypical bad player that the 'old school' (dumb) baseball minds can't figure out actually sucks.

He is so bad in the field that you can't put him anywhere but DH or 1B and his inability to put the ball in play or draw walks give him very little value as a pure offensive weapon. But once every week or two he hits a long homer!!!
